Course objectives:
Give to the student an ability to read gospel by the method of historical critique of sources, which does not refer to Jesus as the
"unknown x", does not identify him just with the Christ of faith, but rather leads towards connection between historical Jesus and
Christ of faith.
Requirements on student
Write an essay on the topic discussed with lecturer.
Content
Jesus from the religion studies point of view. Comparison with: Moses, Jeremiah, Socrates, Buddha, Confucius, Lao-c´, and
Zarathustra.
Jesus from the historical point of view: Christian and non-Christian sources.
The main criteria of historical reliability of the evangels (and other historical sources):
1)criterion of the multiple evidence
2)criterion of continuity and conformity
3)criterion of discontinuity and non-conformity
4)criterion of the necessary explanation
Application of these criteria's on texts of the evangels.

Competences acquired
Student will have orientation in variety of theories which were given about the person and work of Jesus of Nazareth. Student will
be able to differentiate what has historical and theological ground and what has not.
