„True blue” is supposed to derive from the blue cloth
that was made at Coventry, England in the late middle
ages. The town's dyers had a reputation for producing
material that didn't fade with washing, i.e. it remained
„fast” or „true”. The phrase „as true as Coventry blue”
originated then and is still used (in Coventry at least).
„Coventry had formerly the reputation for dying of
blues; insomuch that true blue became a Proverb to
signifie one that was always the same and like himself”.
The change from the literal „fast” coloured cloth to the
allusory „steadfast” loyal supporters came around the
time that Ray was writing his book of proverbs. The
Covenanters were a group of 17th century Scottish
Presbyterians who swore to uphold the National
Covenant and oppose the rule of James IV of Scotland.
They wore blue as their badge and those who
unequivocally supported the cause were called „true
blue”. Loyal and unwavering in one's opinions or
support for a cause.
True Blue (except the perfect match with the facade of
the building) - family owned czech-american style
restaurant with the focus on the genuine and honest
cuisine. Our priority is the hospitality and absolute
satisfaction of our guests. Our loyalty is based on
elimination of shopping for the „reject” products, ready
to-cook-meals or „re-using” the food. The owners
personally control quality and freshness of the products
and as much as possible support domestic articles (f.e.
buying the fresh meat daily from the local butcher shop
selling only products from the czech breeding).
True Blue-the menu is inspired by the traditional czech
cuisine and the long term stay in the United States. We
recommend not only to try one of our popular burgers or
wings and steaks but also traditional schnitzel or fresh
beef tartar..
