1.1. Introduction
This short description will give you a quick introduction into the program
‘AutismEPAT’ and assist your first steps using this program.
AutismEPAT is short form of 'Autism Europass Access Tool'.
The program ‘AutismEPAT’ was developed to support autistic people assessing their
skills.

2. Program Functions
2.1. Program Start
To start the program, double-click the icon created on your desktop or select the
directory where you installed the executable ‘AutismEPAT.exe’ and start it.
If you start the program (or a new Version) the first time, automatically the PDFdocument ‘AutismEPAT-Guiding-principles-en.pdf ’ will be shown. This document
describes the principles of work. In a dialog window you can determine, whether this
document shall be shown at next start of the program.
On the first start of the program you once have to select the folders of the following
database files as described below.
If you already did this, go on with chapter ‘2.5’.
2.2. Assigning Databases and Report-Definitions
- assigning Dictionary/Translation Database for the User-Interface
Here you select the Translation-Database for the User-Interface. Normally the file is
named like ‚AutismEPAT-UI.mdb’ ( or ‚AutismEPAT-UI.accdb’, if you use OLEDB-12).

If you start the program the first time, you have to enter the data of your organization.
If there is no data of the Organisation, the program will show the following message :
After clicking the OK-button, the window ‘Organization’ is shown.

Navigating:
The chapters are represented as a tree structure. You may expand and collapse
chapters by clicking on the prefixed +sign or by double-clicking a chapter. After
selecting a chapter, on the right part the statements corresponding to the selected
chapter are shown.

Before you can create or manage analyses, there must be at least one client and one
employee created. Theses function you reach by the corresponding buttons in the
menu-line. The fields ‘Lastname’ and ‘Firstname’ are mandatory.

To create a new analyses in the upper part select the last line (empty line) :

3.1. Handling
The program handling should be intuitive after a short initial training.
To achieve this, there are some handling helps available :
Tooltips :
Moving your mouse to a field, after a short time a hint
explaining this field will displayed. This feature is not for
every field available.
Context-Menu :
many features are available by clicking the right mouse
button, the so called context menu appears, showing
available options. Here is an example from ‘Chapters and
Statements :

Possible messages at program start :

The version of the database is not equal to program’s version.
If the program’s version is newer than the database version, the database will
automatically be upgraded.
If the program’s version is older than the database version, the program will
exit, because the program can’t handle newer versions of database. You have
to install the actual program version.
Possible messages after selection of a database :

In this example the table ‚tblLanguages‘ was not found within the selected
database. You have to choose a correct database.

1.2.2. Program Overview
The program was developed with Microsoft C#.
The program package consists of 2 basic programs and some supporting programs.
The basic programs are :
AutismEPAT.exe
AutismEPAC.exe
Main program to create and manage projects, questionaries
and analyses
Client-Programm zum Beantworten der Analysen
The support programs are :

pgLanguageManager.exe

Program to translate the notations and descriptions of

THis will only be used by special persons and comes

Data will be held within MS-Access-Database-Files version XP/2002:
The Dictionary Database contains :

1.3. Installation
1.3.1. Introduction
Within many organizations standard users are not allowd to install programs.
Therefore in a further chapter you’ll find the explanation how to install or setup the
program without administrator rights (so called local Installation/Update).
But it’s necessary, that one PC executed the main installation respectively the ‚DataUpdate’ with administrator rights.
This main installation is explained in this chapter.
The installation is supported by Setup-Programs.
Depending on the kind of installation ( New Installation or Update-Installation ) you
need different Setup-Programs.
To execute the Setup-Programs you need administrator rights.
If the Setup-Program cannot be executed, please contact your System-Administrator.
Informations to install without administrator-rights you’ll find within a separate chapter
further down in this document.

1.3.2. New Installation
Before Installation :

You need a folder for data (following ‚Data-Folder‘ called), where every user of
the program has access-rights and where database, report-definitions,
updates and documents are stored.

The program must be installed to each PC separately.

The exact content of the installation is shown at the start of installation.

For installation you need either the file ‘AUTISMEPAT_Setup.zip’ or the files
‘AUTISMEPAT_Data_Setup.exe’ and ‘AUTISMEPAT_Programs_Setup.exe’.

Unzip the file ‘AUTISMEPAT_Setup.zip’ to a folder of your choice, following
called ‘Setup-Folder‘. This Setup-Folder now contains the following files :

The Data-Installation MAY be executed only once, to avoid to overwrite the
eventually existing data !!!

If you already worked with the program, pay attention NOT to overwrite your
databases !!! Save your Database-Files ‚*.MDB‘ und/oder ‚*.ACCDB‘

From the ‘Setup-Folder’ start the program ‘AUTISMEPAT_Data_Setup.exe’.
Following the Setup-Dialog is shown :
Here you select the language for the
installation process. If you don’t select
German, the Catalog-Database and further
documentation files are installed in English
or selected language version.

Installation now has
finished.
If you choose the
option ‘Run
Programs-Setup’,
subsequent the
installation of
programs will be
executed.

If you didn’t choose the option ‘Run Programs-Setup’ in the last window, now
start the program ‘AUTISMEPAT_Programs_Setup.exe’, to install the programs.
The Setup-Dialog of the program ‘AUTISMEPAT_Programs_Setup.exe’ is not shown
in detail, because it almost the same as the Data-Setup.
You should install the program to a separate folder on your harddisk. It is
recommended to name the subfolder ‘\AUTISMEPAT\’ (e.g. ‘C:\DocumentsAnd
Settings\All Users\Documents\AUTISMEPAT’ or ‘C:\Users\All Users\AUTISMEPAT’).
Installation to a USB-Stick
This folder also may be a folder on a USB-Stick. But the performance will decrease
obviously.
The advantage is : You may use the program on different computers.

1.3.3. Update-Installation
For Update-Installation you need either the file ‘AUTISMEPAT_Setup_Update.zip’ or
the files ‘AUTISMEPAT_DataUpdate_Setup.exe’ and
‘AUTISMEPAT_ProgramsUpdate_Setup.exe’.

Unzip the file ‘AUTISMEPAT_Setup_Update.zip’ to a folder of your choice,
following called ‘Setup-Folder‘. This Setup-Folder now contains the following files

The Data-Update ‚AutismEPAT_DataUpdate_Setup.exe‘ may be executed
several times, because it only copies the actual version of the TranslationDatabase, Client-Database-Template etc. If you have several Users/Computer
sharing the same Data-Folder, this update needs only once to be executed.

From ‘Setup-Folder’ start the program
‘AutismEPAT_ProgramsUpdate_Setup.exe’.
1.3.4. Client-Installation

Is only necessary, if the main program (see ‘New Installation) is NOT installed on
your computer.
For Client-Installation you need either the file
‘AutismEPAT_Setup_ClientProgram.zip’ or the file
‘AutismEPAT_ClientPrograms_Setup.exe‘.
Unzip the file ‘AutismEPAT_Setup_ClientProgram.zip’ to a folder of your choice,
following called ‘Setup-Folder‘. This Setup-Folder now contains the following file :
AutismEPAT_ClientPrograms_Setup.exe‘.

1.4. Local Installation / Update
1.4.1. Update
Beginning with program-version 01.00.18.00 you may check, whether a local update
is available. Please follow these procedure :

Within the start-window click the menu-item ‚Extras’ and choose the entry
‚Search for Updates’
If the necessary INI-File ‚AutismEPAT_Update.ini’ doesn’t exist or is not found
within the folder Datafolder\Update, a File-Open-Dialog is shown. Here you
select the folder containing the file ‚AutismEPAT_Update.ini’ and there selet
this file.
Now the program looks for actual updates. The result will be shown.
If an update is available you may start it..
Normally the update will run without user inputs.
After successful update the program will be restartet automatically.
