Diskuse / Přestávka Kazuistický seminář >> Education, Quality, Research and Gate Keeping in Primary Care SATELLITE SYMPOSIUM IN EPIDEMIOLOGY, QUALITY AND EVIDENCE-BASED MEDICINE IN PRIMARY CARE se koná ve spolupráci s THE AMERICAN AUSTRIAN FOUNDATION, organizátorem mezinárodního postgraduálního vzdělávacího programu Salzburg Medical Seminars International, na kterých Prof. Dr. MANFREDA MAIER a Prof. SHARON K. HULL aktivně prednáší. V ČR semináře koordinuje VÝBOR DOBRÉ VULE - NADACE OLGY HAVLOVÉ. After completion of his basic medical education at the Medical Faculty in Vienna in 1975, Dr. Maier started his vocational training to become a general practitioner. Since being licensed in 1979, he works as a GP in his free time either together with his wifeElisabeth in her health care practice or for the emergency health care service in Vienna, Austria. Dr. Maier started his research activities during his vocational training where he conducted clinical studies. He joined the Institute of Medical Physiology at the Medical Faculty in Vienna in 1979 and spent a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School in Boston where he performed experimental studies in the field of renal hemodynamics using methods from biochemistry, immunology, physiology and molecular biology. In 1990, he was elected head of the newly formed special unit for General Practice at the Medical Faculty in Vienna. The institution became an independent department in 2001 and Dr. Maier was appointed professor and chairman in 2004; in the same year, the Department of General Practice together with 6 other Departments formed the new Center for Public Health at the Medical University of Vienna which Dr. Maier headed until 2012; he is now deputy head. Dr. Maier is a member of several teaching and research organizations of WONCA and the “European Society for General Practice/Family Medicine” such as the EGPRN or EURACT and has been chairman of the scientific committee of the European conferences WONCA 2000 and 2012 in Vienna. Sharon K. Hull, MD, MPH has been a practicing, board-certified family physician for more than 24 years. Her clinical interest areas include chronic disease management, preventive care, and health maintenance. She has a special interest in women’s health care and in the culturally appropriate care of members of the LGBTQ community. She is board certified in general preventive medicine and public health. She is the chief of the Division of Family Medicine at Duke Medicine. Her research interests are in primary care practice redesign, and health systems and services research. She is currently leading practice efforts to develop group medical appointments for diabetes mellitus.
