More and more companies are realising the benefits of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), in
order to converge their voice and data traffic into a single IP network, to reduce infrastructure
costs and enhance flexibility. With the expanding use of VoIP Softphones in the enterprise,
there is a growing requirement for PC headset solutions which are specifically designed to
stand up to the daily demands of the office or contact centre environment. Most PC headsets
available are designed for occasional or home use and do not fully meet this need.
Plantronics DA range of USB adapters are designed to ‘PC-enable’ Plantronics professional
grade headsets in order for them to be used on PC’s for VoIP application. Professional grade
headsets such as the SupraPlus® or EncorePro®, have been specifically designed to meet
enterprise customer requirements for robustness and all-day wearing comfort. In addition,
these adapters include technologies such as SoundGuard Plus™ for acoustic shock
protection, Call Clarity™ for clearer conversations and PerSono® Pro software for managers to
easily track whether sound levels are in-line with those defined in European legislation.

*Acoustic Startle and Acoustic Shock Definitions
· Acoustic shock occurs at or above 118dB(A), as defined by EU telephony standards.
· Acoustic startle can be caused by sudden loud sounds, including those below 118dB(A).
It is claimed such sounds can cause a range of undesirable symptoms in some people.
Plantronics professional telephony headsets include acoustic shock protection to limit
sounds at 118dB(A). For customers – particularly contact centers – who seek additional
protection from sudden loud sounds for their employees, SoundGuard Plus provides
acoustic startle protection to further reduce the level of sudden loud sounds.

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)
VoIP has been around for some time now, the main focus for this
technology has been cost savings for enterprises. Companies are
now turning to VoIP for an additional benefit – it enables telephone
conversations in HD Voice. This is due to a technological advance
that doubles the amount of frequencies available for a conversation
compared to standard telephony – 150 to 6800Hz are now available.
