Course: European Union Course type: Obligatory optional, general for Erasmus students Semester: Summer Number of lectures / seminars per week: 2/1 Number of credits: 4 ECTS Course guarantor: PhDr. Markéta Sanalla Lecturer: PhDr. Markéta Sanalla Course completion: Written and oral examination Course objective: Course will clarify the role of the European Union not only in the EU member states, but also policy and economy in the world order. Lectures will be divided into several thematic areas. Individual blocks will explain the origins of the European Communities, the theoretical and paradigmatic approaches to the development of EC / EU institutional arrangements, instruments and arrangement of selected policies and methods of decision making system in the present EU. Attention will be paid to current trends in the EU, the euro area and the Community relations with other regions in the world Lectures content: 1. The history of EC / EU and paradigms of development a) The economic and political development of Europe and the world 1870 – 1950 b) Establishment of the Community and other institutional and contractual development c) Each wave of expansion of EC / EU 2. The institution of the EC / EU a) The main EU institutions (European Commission, EU Council, European Parliament, European Council) b) Other institutions and important posts in the EU (Committee of the Regions, European Economic and Social Committee, European Court of Auditors, European Ombudsman, European Council President, Chairman of the Commission, a representative for foreign relations, the role of the presiding country) 3. The economy of the EC / EU a) Building a common commercial policy b) Common Agricultural Policy c) Building a common currency d) EU Budget e) Regional policy f) Promoting the interests in the EU 4.
