Geehrte und liebe Grandhotel Pupp Gäste,
der an Ereignisse reiche buntfarbige Herbst übergeht unauffällig in den an Ereignisse reichen
weißen Winter. Zu der einmaligen Atmosphäre von Grandhotel Pupp kommt somit auch noch
die unwiederholbare Weihnachts- und Neujahrsstimmung. Es kamen auch neu Spezialitäten im
Grandrestaurant hinzu und das Lächeln auf den Gesichtern des gesamten Teams, das für Sie ein
buntes Programm für diese festliche Zeit vorbereitete. Demnächst kommt neu auch das
Grandhotel Pupp Spa dazu. Außer den vielen weiteren kleinen, sowie größeren Neuheiten, halten

A multi-coloured autumn filled with numerous events is slowly passing into a white winter full of
events. The unique atmosphere of the Grandhotel Pupp is intensified by the unique Christmas
and New Year's atmosphere. There are also new specialties in the Grandrestaurant as well as
smiles on the face of the whole team that have prepared a rich programme for you at the festive
time. The new Grandhotel Pupp Spa will be here very soon too. There will be many less or
more important novelties – you are holding an essential one in your hand – the winter issue of
the Pupp Journal. You will learn what you missed if you did not visit us in autumn and what you
can expect if you come in winter. Would you like to go to a concert, to the theatre or to have
a paraffin bath? O.K., just say it. Do you know how the Grandhotel Pupp has been changing in
the course of time? You need only leaf through it. Is Karlovy Vary too small for you during your
stay? A visit to Klášterec nad Ohří can be beautiful even in the winter. Take your Pupp Journal

Dvořákův karlovarský podzim
Pupp Golf Cup 2009
51. ročník prestižní koncertní přehlídky nabídl
celkem sedm koncertů, z nichž tři, včetně zahajovacího i závěrečného, se odehrály ve Slavnostním
sále Grandhotelu Pupp. Na nich zazněla symfonie
Antonína Dvořáka č. 8 Anglická se sólistou,
houslovým virtuózem Václavem Hudečkem a symfonie č. 9 Z Nového světa, která festival uzavírala.
Přednesena byla také další díla, z nichž jmenujme
Carminu Buranu Carla Orffa nebo symfonii Harold
v Itálii Hectora Berlioze. Součástí přehlídky byl
také odpolední koncert na Mlýnské kolonádě.
Čtvrtý ročník golfového turnaje za účasti osmi
desítek hráčů proběhl v prosluněném září na
hřišti Golf Resort Karlovy Vary. Generální ředitelka Grandhotelu Pupp Andrea Pfeffer-Ferklová,
g l i s hvyzvala účastníky
hlavní organizátorkae nturnaje,
klání k příspěvku pro zdravotně hendikepované.
Částka 30.000 Kč tak putuje do Domova pro
zdravotně postižené ve Stodě. Tamní obyvatelé
darovali turnaji anděla jménem Puppík, který nad
celou akcí bděl a pomohl jistě i absolutnímu vítězi
turnaje Václavu Cvachovi.
Dvořáks Karlsbader Herbst
Der 51. Jahrgang der renommierten Konzert­
vorführung bot insgesamt sieben Konzerte an, von
denen drei, inklusive des Eröffnungs- und des
Abschlusskonzertes, im Festsaal vom Grandhotel
Pupp stattfanden. Es ertönte die Englische
Symphonie von Antonín Dvořák Nr. 8 mit dem
Solisten, dem Geigenvirtuosen Václav Hudeček
und die Symphonie Nr. 9 Aus der Neuen Welt, die
die Festspiele beendete. Es wurden auch weitere
Werke vorgetragen, nennenswert sind die Carmina
Burana von Carl Orff oder die Symphonie Harold
in Italien von Hector Berlioz. Ein Teil der
Vorführung war auch ein Nachmittagskonzert auf
der Mühlbrunn­kolonnade.

The 51st year of the prestigious concert show offered altogether seven concerts. Three of them,
including the opening one and the final one, were
held in the Festive Hall of the Grandhotel Pupp.
You could hear the English Symphony No. 8 by
Antonín Dvořák with the virtuoso violinist Václav
Hudeček and the New World Symphony Nr. 9
which closed the festival. Of other compositions
which were performed let us name Carmina
Burana by Carl Orff or the symphony Harold in
Italy by Hector Berlioze. A part of the show was
also an afternoon concert at the Mill Colonnade.
Krásnou atmosféru přinese každým rokem na
podzim do lázeňského města Karlovarský folklórní festival. Hrálo a tančilo se i letos na mnoha

Kongo. Festival tradičně doprovází porcelánové
a staročeské trhy před Grandhotelem Pupp, které
jsou atraktivní příležitostí pořídit si některý z výrobků české řemeslné zručnosti.
Eine schöne Atmosphäre bringt jedes Jahr im
Herbst in die Kurstadt das Karlsbader Folklor­e­
festival. Man spielte und tanzte auch dieses Jahr
an vielen Plätzen in Karlsbad, auch vor dem
Grandhotel Pupp. Eine Reihe von einheimischen,
sowie ausländischen Teilnehmer, inklusive der
Ensembles aus Schweden, Rumänien oder der
Demokratischen Republik Kongo, nahmen daran
teil. Das Festival begleitet traditionell ein Porzellanund altböhmischer Markt vor dem Grandhotel
Pupp, wo man eine attraktive Gelegenheit sich
eines der Erzeugnissen der böhmischen Hand­
werker­kunst zu kaufen hat.
Karlovy Vary Folklore Festival
with Porcelain and Old
Bohemian Markets
The Karlovy Vary Folklore Festival brings a beautiful atmosphere to Karlovy Vary every year in autumn.
Music was heard and people danced in many places in Karlovy Vary including the free space in front
of the Grandhotel Pupp. A number of Czech and
foreign dance groups took part in including those
from Sweden, Romania or the Democratic Republic
of Congo. The festival is traditionally accompanied
by porcelain and Old-Bohemian markets in front of
the Grandhotel Pupp. It is an attractive occasion to
buy some Czech products of a very high standard
of craftsmanship.

Der vierte Jahrgang des Golfturniers unter Teil­
nahme von achtzig Golfspielern verlief im sonnigen
September am Golfplatz Golf Resort Karlovy Vary.
Die Generaldirektorin von Grand­hotel Pupp Andrea
Pfeffer-Ferklová, die Haupt­organisatorin des Tur­
niers, forderte die Wett­kampf­teilnehmer zur Spende
für behinderte Menschen auf. Die Summe von
30.000 Kč wandert somit ins Pfle­ge­heim in Stod.
Die dortigen Bewohner schenk­ten dem Turnier einen Engel mit dem Na­men Pupp­chen, der über der
gesamten Veran­stal­tung wachte, und verhalf sicher
auch dem Turnier­sieger Václav Cvach.
Pupp Golf Cup 2009
The fourth year of the golf tournament with eight
tens of golfers was held in the Golf Resort
Karlovy Vary in sunlit September. The general
director of the Grandhotel Pupp Andrea PfefferFerklová, the main organizer of the tournament,
asked the participants to contribute to disabled
people. The sum of 30, 000 crowns will go to the
Home for Disabled People in Stod. Its inhabitants
gave the tournament an angel called Puppík as
a present. The angel watched over the whole
event and must have helped the absolute winner
of the tournament Václav Cvach.
Tourfilm a Karlovarský týden 2009
Nejstarší Mezinárodního filmový festival turistických filmů se v Karlových Varech konal již po 42.
Slavnostní večery Tourfilmu, společně s akcemi
Karlovarského týdne, hostil na počátku října
Grandhotel Pupp. Významná byla zejména konference o lázeňství a cestovním ruchu, zaměřená na
kandidaturu západočeských lázní do prestižního
Seznamu světového dědictví UNESCO. Na festivalu Tourfilm bylo v letošním roce uvedeno 966

Das älteste Internationale Filmfestival der touristi­
schen Filme fand in Karlsbad bereits zum 42stenmal statt. Die Festabende vom Tourfilm, gemeinsam mit den Veranstaltungen der Karlsbader
Woche, bewirtete am Anfang Oktober das
Grandhotel Pupp. Bedeutend war vor allem die
Konferenz über das Kurwesen und den Frem­den­
verkehr, orientiert auf die Kandidatur der westböhmischen Bäder in die renommierte Liste des
Weltkulturerbes der UNESCO. Am Festival Tour­
film wurden dieses Jahr 966 Filmtitel, inklusive der
CD ROM und der Webseiten aus 136 Ländern der
Welt vorgestellt. Den Grand Prix Tourfilm 2009
erhielt der indische Film Incredible India.

The oldest International Film Festival of Films
about Tourism was held in Karlovy Vary for the
42nd time. The Grandhotel Pupp played host to
the gala evenings of the Tourfilm as well as of the
events of the Karlovy Vary Week at the beginning
of October. Especially the conference on balneology and tourism, which focused on the candidacy of
West Bohemian spa towns for the prestigious
World Heritage List of the UNESCO, was of importance. 966 films including CD ROMs and websites
from 136 countries of the world were shown at this
year’s Tourfilm festival. The Grand Prix Tourfilm
2009 went to India for the film Incredible India.
V eliminačních zápasech na 3 x 3 minuty se konečným vítězem stal Rus Artem Vakhitov. Ve vložených
zápasech se bojovalo také podle pravidel thaiboxu
a večer vrcholil zápasem Super Top Fight.

Einer der Abschlussgalaabende Kampf der Titanen
im Kickbox fand im Festsaal vom Grandhotel Pupp
statt. Eine Umgebung, gewöhnt vor allem an gesell­
schaftliche Veranstaltungen und Konzerte der klassi­
schen Musik, umwandelte sich so in eine Arena der
gnadenlosen Kämpfe um die Teil­nahme in der
Endrunde der Wett­kampf­pyramide. In den Aus­
scheidungskämpfen 3 x 3 Minuten wur­de zum Sieger
der Russe Artem Vakhitov. In den eingelegten
Wettkämpfen kämpfte man auch nach den Regeln
des Thai Box und der Abend wurde mit dem Super Top
Fight Kampf vollendet.
The Clash of the Titans

Jeden ze série závěrečných galavečerů Souboj Titánů
v kickboxu se konal ve Slavnostním sále Grandhotelu
Pupp. Prostředí zvyklé zejména na společenské akce
a koncerty vážné hudby se tak proměnilo v arénu
lítých bojů o účast v závěrečném klání pyramidy.
One of the series of final gala evenings called the Clash
of the Titans in kickboxing was held in the Festive Hall
of the Grandhotel Pupp. A place which is used to social
events and concerts of classical music was changed into
an arena where fierce fights for the participation in the
final round of the pyramid took place. The Russian kick
boxer Artem Vakhitov became the final winner of elimination matches for 3 x 3 minutes. Inserted matches
followed the rules of Thai boxing and the evening reached its peak with the Super Top Fight.

Svatý Valentýn v Grandrestaurantu
12.2. - 28.2. 2010
Legendy praví, že svátek zamilovaných vznikl jako
připomínka potrestaného mnicha Valentýna. Ten ve
3. století v Římě proti zákazu císaře Claudia II. tajně
oddával zamilované páry. Zákaz sňatků byl vyhlášen
kvůli odporu mužů opouštět rodiny a účastnit se bitev. Mnich byl vězněn a 14. února roku 296 postaven na hranici. Na jeho památku vznikla tradice posílání přáníček „Od tvého Valentýna“, což byla i poslední mnichova slova. Přáníčko, které si přečtete
u valentýnské večeře v Grandrestaurantu, se stane
nezapomenutelným, stejně jako valentýnská legenda.

Legends have it that the holiday of those in love came
into being in honour of a punished monk Valentine.
He secretly married young couples in Rome in the 3rd
century breaking so emperor Claudius II’s ban.
Marriages were prohibited because married men refused to leave their families and to take part in battles.
The monk was imprisoned and burnt at the stake on
14th February 296. The tradition of Valentine cards
was born. “From Valentine” were the last words of the

Paraffinwickel
PARAFÍN
Jedná se o příjemnou tepelnou proceduru, při
které se využívá jako zdroj směs tuhého parafínu
a parafínového oleje. Teplota rozehřátého parafínu se pohybuje v rozmezí 50-52 stupňů Celsia.
Aby se optimálně využilo tepla, které horký parafín předává tělu, nanáší se na příslušnou část těla
vždy v několika vrstvách. Parafín se aplikuje několika způsoby. Jednak je to přímé ponoření do vaničky s parafínem, které se opakuje 4-7x a využívá se pouze u horních a dolních končetin. Jindy
se horký parafín nanáší štětcem na postiženou
část těla, anebo se na příslušné místo přikládají
obklady parafínových plástů. Tyto dvě metody se
užívají nejčastěji v oblasti zad, šíje, ramen či kolenou. Nejvyšší efekt má však metoda opakovaného namáčení. Tato procedura zvyšuje prokrvení
tkání, uvolňuje svalstvo kosterní i hladké svalstvo
vnitřních orgánů, změkčuje a uvolňuje vazivo
před bezprostředně následujícím cvičením či mechanoterapií. Aplikace parafínu má také nezanedbatelné protibolestivé a imunobiologické účinky.
Hlavními indikacemi aplikace parafínu jsou onemocnění pohybového aparátu, dýchacích cest,
trávicího ústrojí, metabolismu, dále choroby
oběhové, metabolické a urologické. Mezi nejdůležitější kontraindikace patří akutní kožní choroby,
srdeční nedostatečnost a veškeré akutní stavy.
Z těchto důvodů patří parafín mezi procedury,
které by měl indikovat lékař. Doporučení:
Parafínový obklad je tepelná procedura, proto se
připravte na první silně pálivý vjem. Je zajímavé,
že ženy přijímají tento tepelný šok mlčky, zatímco
muži posykávají, vzdychají, až vykřikují. Spokojeni
s příjemným prohřátím jsou však všichni.
Doporučuje se obnažit co největší část těla, aby
vosk nepotřísnil prádlo.

Es handelt sich um eine angenehme
Thermalmethode, bei der man ein Gemisch von
festem Paraffin und Paraffinöl ausnutzt. Die
Temperatur des heissen Paraffins bewegt sich
zwischen 50°C und 52°C. Um die Wärme optimal auszunutzen, die das heisse Paraffin dem
Körper übergibt, wird es auf den betreffenden
Körperteil immer in einigen Schichten aufgetragen. Es kann auf einige Weisen appliziert werden.
Die erste ist die direkte Eintauchung in eine kleine
Wanne mit Paraffin, die 4x bis 7x wiederholt
wird, was bei oberen und unteren Gliedmassen
gebraucht wird. Weiter ist es möglich, heisses
Paraffin mit einem Pinsel auf den Körperteil aufzutragen oder die Methode der Paraffinwaben zu
benutzen, die auf den betreffenden Körperteil wie
ein Umschlag angelegt werden. Diese zwei
Methoden benutzt man am häufigsten für den
Rücken, Nacken, Schultern und Knie. Den höchsten Effekt hat die Methode der wiederholten
Eintauchung. Eine bessere Durchblutung der
Gewebe, Entspannung der sowohl Skelettmuskeln
als auch der glatten Muskulatur der inneren
Organe und Aufweichung und Lockerung des
Bindegewebes gehören zu den interessantesten
Effekten des Paraffins. Es ist besonders nützlich
vor Übungen oder der Mechanotherapie, die der
Behandlung folgen. Paraffin hat auch wichtige
analgetische und immunobiologische Wirkungen.
Die Hauptindikationen für Paraffinbäder sind
Erkrankungen des Bewegungsapparats, der
Atemwege, des Verdauungsapparats, metabolische
Störungen, Kreislauf-, metabolische und urologische Krankheiten. Zu den wichtigsten Kontra­
indikationen gehören akute Haut­krank­heiten,
Herzschwäche und alle akuten Zustände. Aus
diesem Grunde gehören Paraffinbäder zu
Behandlungsmethoden, die der Arzt verordnen
muss. Empfehlung: Das Paraffinbad ist eine thermotherapeutische Behandlung, deshalb müssen
Sie darauf vorbereitet sein, dass Sie sie als sehr
brennend empfinden werden. Es ist interessant,
dass Frauen diesen „Thermoschock“ schweigend
annehmen, während Männer zischen, seufzen,
sogar aufschreien. Doch mit der angenehmen
Durchwärmung sind dann alle zufrieden. Vor der
Behandlung sollten Sie den möglichst grossen Teil
Ihres Körpers entblössen, darum der Wachs Ihre
Kleiderstücke nicht befleckt.

Contraindications include acute skin diseases, heart insufficiency and all acute states. For this reason, paraffin wraps rank as a method of treatment
which has to be prescribed by the doctor.
Recommendation: The paraffin poultice is a thermotherapeutical method of treatment, you must
be therefore prepared to a very hot first sensation.
It is interesting that women accept this “thermal
shock” in silence while men hiss, sigh and almost
scream. However, they all are satisfied after the
treatment. You should put off as much clothes as
possible so that wax may not spot them.

betriebes Pupp und gleich ist es im heutigen Grand­
hotel Pupp. Das Aussehen sowie die Ein­richtung des
Restaurants veränderten sich im Laufe der Jahre, das
neoklassizistische Interieur und die kulinarische Kunst
vom höchsten Niveau bleibt. In zeitgenössischen
Schriften vom Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts schreibt
man: „Die Küche und das Restaurant von Grandhotel
Pupp sind ein europäischer Star. Die gemütliche
Atmosphäre des Grand­res­taurants vollenden reiche
Stuckaturen an der Decke sowie die mit Brokat bezogenen Wände, Spie­gel­de­korationen mit graziösen
Blumengirlanden, Vorhänge aus luxuriöser Seide über
den hohen Spiegeln, Möbel im modischen Barockstil
und Esstische mit einem exklusiven Service. Das alles
unterstreicht den Eindruck der einmaligen, leuchtenden und erhabenen Noblesse“. Das Grandrestaurant
hat nicht einmal nach 100 Jahren nichts von seinem
Glanz verloren, im Gegenteil. Jeder Besuch dieses
Tempels der Geschmäcke ist ein außergewöhnliches
Erlebnis, was man nicht vergisst.
The Grandrestaurant has always been the pride
of the Pupp´s business. The disposition and
equipment of the restaurant have changed in
the course of time but the neo-classicist style of
the interior and the culinary skill of the highest
standard are still here. It is written in period
documents from the early 20th century: “The
kitchen and restaurant of the Grandhotel Pupp
are European celebrities. The cosy atmosphere
of the Grandrestaurant is created by lavish
stucco on the ceiling and walls covered with
brocade, mirror decorations with lovely garlands, curtains from luxurious silk above high
mirrors, furniture in the stylish Baroque style
and tables with an exclusive service. This all
stresses the impression of shining uniqueness
and stately nobleness.” The Grandrestaurant
has not lost anything of its glamour even after
100 years, on the contrary. Each visit to this
“temple of tastes” is a unique experience which
you will not forget.

Abychom pochopili složitý a dlouhý zrod
Grandhotelu Pupp v jeho dnešní architektonické
podobě, je třeba pohlédnout v čase zpátky - do
18. a 19. století a připomenout, že dnešní velkohotel vyrostl z celé řady menších budov, které
Puppové postupně skoupili a přestavěli. Tento
komplikovaný proces usilovného skupování, budování a přestavování trval bezmála 150 let.
Komplex domů kolem Saského a Českého sálu
prodělal během své existence složitý stavební
a vlastnický vývoj. Poměrně často, většinou se
změnou majitele, se měnily názvy a dispozice budov. V anonymním průvodci po Karlových Varech
z roku 1734 čteme tuto chválu karlovarských lust­
hausů: Obzvláště příhodné pro všemožná potěšení jsou dva pěkně vystavené lusthausy, kde mají
vysoké stavy příležitost se dobře bavit hrou a kulečníkem, loumberem a jinými kratochvílemi. Je
tu možné se občerstvit lahodnými sladkostmi
a vybrat si k pití ta nejvzácnější zahraniční vína,
přičemž stinná Alej s krásnými procházkami tu
skýtá velké potěšení. V roce 1766 zažil Český sál
slavnou návštěvu - přenocování mladého a velmi
oblíbeného rakouského císaře Josefa II. Ten přijel
do Karlových Varů, aby zde navštívil kněžnu
Liechtensteinovou. Při cestě do Chebu 15. června
1766 dorazil panovník na Hůrky k zájezdnímu
hostinci, zvanému německy Bergwirtshaus.
Protože vládce rakouské monarchie měl smysl pro
humor a nadevše miloval překvapení, sešel do
města z Hůrek inkognito pěšky. V domě Zelená
lodˇ na Tržišti pak navštívil svou přítelkyni kněž-

nu Liechtensteinovou, jež císaře doprovodila do
Českého sálu k hostině. V Českém sále se císař
ubytoval. K uvítání císaře se všechno obyvatelstvo
Karlových Varů shromáždilo na Pražské silnici.
Když se dozvěděli, že císař je už dávno ve městě,
srotili se všichni u Českého sálu, aby panovníkovi
vzdali náležitý hold. Císař Karlovarským poděkoval za milé přivítání. Po hostině v Českém sále se
císař ve čtyři hodiny odpoledne odebral do Aleje,
kde ve stínu lip udělil audienci urozeným domácím i zahraničním hostům Karlových Varů. Večer
se konal v Saském sále slavnostní bál. Dne 3. července 1786 uspořádal hrabě Josef Thun
v Puppovské aleji na počest vévodkyně z Mein­in­
genu šachovou hru s „živými figurami“, tj. s malými dětmi. Hráči šachové partie byli hrabě Thun
a baron Josef Heinrich von Racknitz z Drážďan.
Hrabě Thun dával pokyny k přesunům dětí po
velké pískem vysypané šachovnici z oken Českého
sálu (někdy se uvádí, že tak činil tasenou šavlí).
Thun byl proslulý tím, že své hosty nejen
v Karlových Varech často bavil pouštěním vzdušných balónů. Urozená lázeňská společnost
v Karlových Varech se mezi sebou vesměs znala.
Podle seznamu lázeňských hostů se ihned vědělo,
kdo kdy do lázní přijel a kde je ubytován. Když se
někdo chtěl s nově příchozím seznámit, bylo zvykem mu po sloužícím poslat vizitku. Každý večer

k tanci a hrám. Těmto družným společným večerům se říkalo reunion. Kromě toho četné osobnosti pořádaly plesy ve vlastní režii s volným
vstupem pro každého (tzv. Freiball). Žádný z obyvatel Karlových Varů se během těchto plesů nesměl v sálech ukázat, prostému lidu byl vstup
mezi panstvo zakázán, neboť společenské stavy
byly kolem roku 1780 ještě přísně oddělené.
Koncem 18. století se mezi šlechtou ujal módní
zvyk pořádat kromě večerních reunionů také
společné snídaně (zakládaly se dokonce tzv. snídaňové kluby), často i s tancem. Při dobrém počasí
se snídalo venku v Puppovské aleji, při dešti
a zhoršeném povětří pak v Českém sále.
Velkolepých zábav šlechty ve čtyřicátých letech
19. století ubývalo - Karlovy Vary pozvolna ztichly
a po staletích se staly skutečně lázněmi pro léčení
nemocných, nikoli místem pro povyražení šlechty.

150 Jahre. Der Häuserkomplex um den
Sächsischen und Böhmischen Saal machte
während seines Bestehens eine komplizierte Bauund Eigentumsentwicklung durch. Ziemlich oft,
meistens mit dem Wechsel des Besitzers, änderten
sich die Namen und der Charakter der Gebäude.
Im anonymen Reiseführer durch Karlsbad aus
dem Jahre 1734 liest man dieses Lob der
Karlsbader Lusthäuser: Sonders aber sind zu all
selbst beliebender Ergötzlichkeit die schön erbauten Lust-Häuser, wo zu all hohen Ständen beliebigen Assembleen Gelegenheit, auch zu Spiel von
Billard, Loumbre etc. die Ziet zu paßiren ist, mit
Leibes-Erfrischungen von kostbaren Confecturen,
und vornehm raresten Geträncken ausländischer
Weine: Wobey die schattenreichen Allen und
schöne Spazier-Gänge ein großes Vergnügen geben. Im Jahre 1766 erlebte der Böhmische Saal
einen berühmten Besuch, die Übernachtung des
jungen und sehr beliebten österreichischen Kaisers
Josef II. Dieser kam nach Karlsbad, um hier die
Fürstin Liechtenstein zu besuchen. Während seiner Reise nach Eger am 15. Juni 1766 kam der
Herrscher nach Berghäuseln (Hůrky) zum
Ausspann, das Bergwirtshaus genannt wurde.
Weil der Herrscher der österreichischen Monarchie
Sinn für Humor hatte und über alles
Überraschungen liebte, ging er in die Stadt
von Berghäuseln Inkognito zu Fuß. Im Haus
Grünes Schiff am Markt besuchte er dann seine
Freundin Fürstin Liechtenstein, die den Kaiser in

den Böhmischen Saal zum Festmahl begleitete.
Der Kaiser kehrte in den Böhmischen Saal ein.
Zum Willkommen des Kaisers kamen alle
Einwohner von Karlsbad zur Prager Straße. Als
sie erfuhren, dass der Kaiser schon längst in der
Stadt ist, versammelten sich alle am Böhmischen
Saal, um dem Herrscher gebührlich zu huldigen.
Der Kaiser dankte den Karlsbadern für den netten
Empfang. Nach dem Festmahl im Böhmischen
Saal begab sich der Kaiser um 4 Uhr Nachmittag
in die Allee, wo er im Schatten der Linden
Audienz den adeligen hiesigen, sowie den ausländischen Gästen gewährte. Am Abend fand im
Sächsischen Saal ein Festball statt. Am 3. Juli
1768 veranstaltete Graf Josef Thun in der
Puppischen Allee zu Ehren der Herzogin von
Meiningen ein Schachspiel mit „lebendigen
Figuren“, d. h. mit kleinen Kindern. Spieler der
Schachpartie waren Graf Thun und Baron Josef
Heinrich von Racknitz aus Dresden. Graf Thun
erteilte die Anweisungen zu Zügen der Kinder auf
einem großen, mit Sand ausgestreuten Schachbrett,
aus den Fenstern des Böhmischen Saales (manchmal wird angegeben, dass er so mit gezücktem
Säbel tat). Thun war bekannt dadurch, dass er
seine Gäste nicht nur in Karlsbad oft mit
Luftballonsteigen unterhielt. Die adelige
Kurgesellschaft in Karlsbad kannte sich allzumal
untereinander. Nach den Kurlisten wusste man
gleich, wer wann zur Kur kam und wo er untergebracht ist. Wenn sich jemand mit neu Anreisenden
kennen lernen wollte, war es üblich, ihm nach
einem Dienstboten eine Visitenkarte zu senden.
Jeden Abend traf sich die Highsociety im
Sächsischen und Böhmischen Saal zum Tanz und
Spielen. Diese Gesellschaftsabende nannte man
Reunion. Außerdem veranstalteten viele
Persönlichkeiten Bälle in eigener Regie, mit freiem Eintritt für jeden (sog. Freiball). Kein
Einwohner von Karlsbad durfte sich während
dieser Bälle an den Sälen blicken lassen, dem gemeinen Volk wurde der Eintritt unter die Adeligen
verboten, denn die Gesellschaftsstände waren um
das Jahr 1780 noch streng getrennt. Ende des 18.
Jahrhunderts setzte sich unter dem Adel ein
Modebrauch durch. Außer den abendlichen
Reunionen gab es auch gemeinsames Frühstück
(man gründete sogar sog. Frühstücksklubs), oft
wurde dabei auch getanzt. Bei gutem Wetter frühstückte man draußen in der Puppischen Allee, bei
Regen und verschlechterter Witterung dann im

Nedaleko od Karlových Varů po proudu řeky
Ohře leží v jejím údolí na rozhraní Krušných
a Doupovských hor Klášterec nad Ohří. Historie
místa sahá až do 12. století, kdy zde benediktini
založili klášter. Jméno Klášterec se poprvé objevuje
v roce 1407. Nejvýznamnější památkou je zámek
z 16. století, který byl větší část své historie ve
vlastnictví slavného rodu Thunů. Prodělal řadu
přestaveb, přičemž současná pseudogotická podoba je z roku 1858. Součástí areálu je také kostel
Nejsvětější trojice, Thunská hrobka a rozsáhlá zahrada s raně barokní salou terrenou, sochami
a zámeckou kašnou, zdobenou sochou Tritóna od
J. Brokoffa z roku 1686. V zahradách je dnes
možné najít na 220 druhů stromů z celého světa.
Návštěva celého areálu od zámku až po nábřežní
parkovou promenádu je v kterémkoliv ročním období nádherným zážitkem. Kousek odsud proti proudu
se přímo u řeky Ohře nacházejí obnovené lázně
Evženie, jejichž prameny byly objeveny na konci
19. století. Minerální pramen byl krátce nato jímán
a prodáván jako Klášterecká kyselka, kterou byla za
války zásobována i Rommelova armáda v Africe.
Vznikla tu také promenáda a lázeňský park.

Klösterle an der Eger
Klášterec nad Ohří
Unweit von Karlsbad, flussabwärts der Eger, in
ihrem Tal zwischen dem Erzgebirge und dem
Duppauer Gebirge, liegt Klášterec nad Ohří
(Klösterle an der Eger). Die Geschichte dieses
Ortes reicht bis ins 12. Jahrhundert, als hier die
Benediktiner ein Kloster gründeten. Der Name
Klösterle erscheint zum ersten Mal im Jahre
1407. Die bedeutendste Sehenswürdigkeit ist das
Schloss aus dem 16. Jahrhundert, das größten­
teils seiner Geschichte im Eigentum der berühmten Adels­familie Thun war. Es wurde mehrmals
umgebaut, wobei das heutige neugotische
Aussehen aus dem Jahre 1858 stammt. Im
Gelände befindet sich auch die Dreifal­
tigkeitskirche, die Thungruft und ein umfangreicher Garten mit der Frühbarocken Sala Terrena,
Statuen und dem Schlossbrunnen, mit der
Tritonstatue von J. Brokoff aus dem Jahre 1686.
In den Gärten kann man derzeit an die 220
Baumarten aus der ganzen Welt finden. Der
Besuch des gesamten Areals, vom Schloss bis zur
Uferparkpromenade, ist ein wunderschönes
Erlebnis zu jeder Jahreszeit. Ein Stück flussaufwärts, direkt an dem Fluss Eger, befindet sich
das wiedererneuerte Bad Eugenie, dessen
Quellen am Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts entdeckt
wurden. Die Mineralquelle wurde kurz darauf
aufgefangen und als Sauerbrunn von Klösterle
verkauft, mit dem im Krieg auch Rommels
Armee in Afrika versorgt wurde. Es entstanden
hier auch eine Promenade und ein Kurpark.
Klášterec nad Ohří is situated near Karlovy Vary,
downstream the river Ohře in a valley between
the Ore Mountains and the Doupovské hory
Mountains. The history of the place goes back
to the 12th century when Benedictines founded
a monastery here. The name Klášterec appeared
for the first time in 1407. The most important
sight is a chateau dating from the 16th century
which was owned by the famous family of Thun
for the major time of its history. It has been renovated many times and its present pseudogothic appearance dates from the year 1858.
A part of the complex are the Trinity Church, the
Thun Tomb and an extensive garden with an
early Baroque sala terrena, statues and a fountain decorated with the statue of Triton by
J. Brokoff dating from 1686. It is possible to find
220 sorts of trees from the whole world in the
garden today. A visit to the whole grounds from
the chateau as far as the park promenade on the
river bank is an unforgettable experience in any
season of the year. The “re-discovered” Spa
House Evženie is located upstream close by the
river Ohře. Their springs were discovered in the
late 19th century. Water from the mineral spring
was collected and bottled shortly thereafter and
it was sold under the name Acidulous Water of
Klášterec. Rommel´s army in Africa was supplied with it during the war. A promenade and
a spa park were built here as well.
