THE BENEFIT PROGRAM TOURIST
DISCOUNT CARD
IN THE JIZERA MOUNTAINS
For everybody who wants to spend his holiday
really in an active way the Liberec region has prepared the BENEFIT Program card. Due to this card the
visitors of the region can save a lot of money on
accommodation, sight-seeings and sports. The card
is available in most of the information centres in the
region for CZK 35, being connected with the tourist
server www.liberecky-kraj.cz, providing a complete review of discounts and possibilities how to
use the card for accommodation and other activities in the region.

Skiing Magistral
in the Jizera
Mountains
(Jizerské hory)
The central part of the Jizerské hory
is a mountain plateau. At the altitude of 1000 m, one of the most beautiful ski resorts has been established, consisting of 150 km of tidy
cross-country’s routes. The ski competition „Jizerská padesátka“.(the
Jizerská fifty), the famous long
cross-country skiing run has been
held here every year since 1968.
The Jizera Skiing Magistral belongs to the most visited places designed for cross-country skiing in the
Czech Republic.
The preparation of the routes by machines was started in 1984 due to the Jizerská padesátka organizers
´initiative who wanted the participants of the competition to have the possibility of a training not just during
the days of preparation before the start of the event but
in the course of the whole winter season. This idea was
greatly supported and the skiing routes in Jizera
Mountain started to be prepared for the wide public.
Since 1999 the Jizera Magistral has been taken care of
by JIZERSKA, a community organization founded in the
town of Bedřichov for this purpose, because of improvement of the whole-season routes preparation and
thus further development and improvement of the tourism conditions in the Jizera Mountains.
The length of the Jizera Skiing Magistral is 155km
currently, there are 2 new starting places from the season 2007/2008- Bílý potok – chalet Hubertka, Desná v
Jizerských horách – Soušská přehrada (Souš dam).

THE SKI BIŽU Ltd.
is an operator of four resorts in the Jizera Mountains (Tanvaldský Špičák,
Severák, Bedřichov a newly Desná – Parlament). The resorts are superficial
snowed and daily cared for. Due to the variety of the routes all winter sports
lovers, ranging from the beginners and families with children up to
demanding skiers will be satisfied here. At Tanvaldský Špičák and Severák also
snow-parks are available. Free of charge parking in the resorts is a matter of
fact. The company Ski Bižu SPORT has been providing complex services –
teaching of skiing and snowboarding, renting of quality equipment and at the
only service with the grinding automat in the Jizera Mountains , at Tanvaldský

water temperature of 30°C ensures perfect relaxation – every Friday a relaxation hour
in the AQUAPARK takes place from 10.00 pm –11.00 pm-without the attractions
being in operation.

An offer for the naturists:
A regular Saturday evening naturist party, taking place 6 times a year. Watch the
update invitations. Swimming without swimsuit takes place every Monday from 8.pm.

The CENTRUM BABYLON offers a way out
from the “ snow crises“ or to the skiers,
being tired after several days of skiing.
Starting on the second Christmas holiday
(December 26) the Babylonian SkiAquaBus
will set out again on the roads. It will be
transporting the skiers from the towns of
Rokytnice, Harrachov and Bedřichov so
that they might swim and have an entertainment and skiers from Liberec to the
mountains, under better snow conditions,
up until the end of March.
The BABYLON CENTRE, in cooperation with Snowhill, s.r.o. have
prepared for the Ještěd skiers a special discount service package
From Skies To The Aqua-park – a combination with the
possibility of all day skiing on the Ještěd mountain and a allday entering the Aqua-park (10.00 am - 10.00 pm ) for only

hotel guest to the Ještěd Skiresort and back twice a day.

celebrates its 10th anniversary
Sports and hotel complex Břízky is in operation for ten years in Jablonec nad Nisou and offers an
ideal combination of hotel services and various sports and relaxation activities. During its ten-year existence this complex became renowned among many visitors from near and far for its high quality hotel
which offers a wide variety of sports as well as many accompanying therapeutic services.
In the Tennis Squash Centre, which is the official name of the hall, the visitor can find four indoor
tennis courts, two squash and two badminton courts built according to international parameters, indoor golf and a fitness room. guidence from professional trainers is also available in the Tennis Squash
Centre. You can even enrol in our training school which provides instruction in tennis, squash, badminton and golf.

– the maternity centre was established by mothers on maternity leave who are at the
same time involved in its administration and provide the program. Based on the principle of family self-help it provides fellowship, solidarity and openness to all generations. It

Tuesday morning at 10:00 am, mothers with bigger children every Thursday from 3.00 pm

House of children and youth (Leisure time centre) in Nové Město pod

The main Art Nouveau building, built by
architect Emilian Herbig in 1904, belonging originally to the export company Zimmer & Schmidt,
offers the best of large museum collection funds. In
a newly reconstructed building the museum presents its permanent expositions „Charming
world of custom jewellery” and „Magic
Garden” – Bohemian Glass in Seven Centuries .

exposition of the Jablonec custom jewellery worldwide (380m2) and the only custom jewellery in the
Czech Republic where you can admire coins.

Centuries is the largest exposition of historical
and contemporary glass in the Czech Republic (380 m2). It records the fascinating journey of glass starting
from an anonymous cup to author solitaire, representing not only the luxury glass but also daily use subjects
. The museum was awarded a special Gloria musaealis prize in 2004 for Museum Event of the Year 2004
and was nominated for the contest European Museum of the Year 2005.
The museum’s offer is, however, much more various in the winter months. At the end of 2007 we invite
you for an exhibition of a glass-making artist Václav Hanuš called Eveready’s Art – Jizera Mountains
Crystallery . In the beginning of 2008 there is going to be an author jewellery exhibition by V. K. Novák and the students of the Art and Crafts University
in Prague and a unique exhibition of black custom jewellery from March till the
end of May. An interesting offer for you will be also a Christmas atelier being
held December 7. - 13. where we will provide to you interesting tips concerning Christmas candles and beadles production.
A part of the museum collection may be seen also in the nearby
Belveder Gallery. This late-baroque two-storeys house with mansard roof belongs to the
oldest buildings in the

may find an Empire parlour and a permanent
exhibition of the local
traditional commodity –

. The Museum of Glass and Jewellery presents the history of the glass-making production, having a hundred
year’s tradition in the town. In the main Art Nouveau
building you may find the best of large collections of
glass, jewellery, coins, medals and plaques. There is also
a specialized library focused on the history and present
of the glass-making and custom jewellery industry, art
glass and jewellery in the museum. Two permanent
expositions about the past and present of the Czech
glass-making industry, jewellery production, Jablonec
current jewellery and coinage are represented here:
Charming world of custom jewellery and Magic garden of glass. These open and encounter permanent
exhibitions provide information to the visitors in several levels. They give the possibility to have a deeper
insight but also only to meditate or to play with parts
of the expositions. Further exhibitions are held, an
additional programs being prepared, you can buy souvenirs (glass and custom jewellery) in a pleasant glass
shop in the museum.

part of the museum. Its building is situated approximately 700 m from the Museum of Glass and
Jewellery building. This late baroque two-storeys building belongs to the oldest buildings in the town, first
mentioned in 1773. A pharmacy, a garden restaurant
and the Belveder restaurant once stood here. The
exhibition hall area is designed not only for the glass
and custom jewellery exhibitions but also for the
homeland study. The gallery further offers a permanent exhibition of the Empire Lounge and 19th century Glass Button. Exhibitions are being held occasionally. You will be certainly pleased by a small present
from the gallery shop - glass figure, curled bead ,
glass button, beads or a contemporary postcard.
Korálek (the bead) – a historical glass

A technical-historic sight, protected by the state.
At the visit of the “Korálek“ you can go through
the glass –making workshop’s functional technical
equipment, including the glass-making tools, squeezers and other tools. The glass beads or squeezed buttons were produced in this way already 150 years
ago. The excursion includes a lot of practical demonstrations and a spoken word as well. You can prove
your skills and assist at a demonstration of a lamp
bead production
The visit has to be agreed on beforehand, for firing
of the furnaces for coal takes more time.
Bedřichov – the archeological site of a former glass-making factory

The glass-making factory’s production examples may

Šámal´s seat at Nová Louka
A glass-making factory was built in the half of 18th
century on this site as well as a residence of the factory’s owner, so called Panský dům. After the glass-making
factory had been closed, about after 100 years of operation, the Panský dům was rebuilt to a hunting-seat that
has been maintained up until today. During the time of
the 1st .Czechoslovak Republic, high state officials,
among others JUDr. Přemysl Šámal, the chancellor of the
president Masaryk used to go here for recreation and the
building was named after him currently. Serving as a
pension and restaurant at the present, due to its wonderful location in the heart of the Jizera Mountains, it
has become a traditional and favorite goal of tourists,

Museum of the Smržovka´s local history and

The museum is located in attic premises of a chateau
in Smržovka at the T.G.Masaryk square. Inaugurated
August 15, 2003. The exposition consists of contemporary subjects, photographs and maps, lent or donated
both by local people and Smržovka´s friends. The aim is
to show to the visitors the historical development of the
town, to point out to interesting places and sights, to
commemorate important personalities of this town.
A part of the exhibition are also everyday use subjects,
sports equipment etc. The exposition wants to bring closer the development of our town and life of its citizens
in a historical context. Of course neither local industry
nor culture were neglected. Due to the use of still
unpublished documents and exhibits the exposition will
be updated, mostly on the occasions of local anniversaries and celebrations.
Museum of the Jizera Mountains - The Museum
of the Jizera Mountains is open for the public from May
till October every Saturday and Sunday always from
9.00 am to 4.00 pm. Its operation in winter is limited,

The Museum is located in the midst of the Jizera
Mountains in the settlement Jizerka, in a building belonging to the Czech Union for Nature Conservation
Jizerka (ČSOP Jizerka). The building was built in 1889, in
the time of the biggest boom of the settlement, serving
as a school for the local citizens´ children. The number of
the local citizens exceeded 400- they were mostly glassmakers, timbermen, craftsmen and merchants. As the
operation of the glass-making factory was finished in the
twenties of the last century, the number of the children
at school got lower, nevertheless the school at Jizerka
was serving to its purpose continually up to 1956. In the
following years the building was rebuilt to a recreation
facility and the Mountain Service and the CSOP use it as
a terrain station.

The current building was built in the years 1897 –
98 in the new renaissance style, according to the proposal of B. Ohmann. It is dominated especially by a
slender tower, which is an exact copy of the Liberec
town hall tower. There is a naturalistic, archeological
and historical exposition of the North Bohemia in the
museum. A special attention is paid to the textile production development in the region and the other
exposition including fine arts development from the
time of antique up until today. The collection of oriental carpets is the largest one in the CR, the current
author
tapestry
is
also
significant.
Also the mechanical musical automats exposition,
with most of the exhibits being fully functional, is
remarkable.

Late Baroque church of St. Archangel
Michael – belonging to the most important sights in

Stone railway viaduct in Smržovka – a significant engineering building from 1894
The Dam Failure area and Bílá Desná disaster memorial /This cultural monument is a remain
of a valley dam, which was a part of the flood prevention project – construction of dams in the Jizera
Mountains. On October 18, 1916 the dam broke
down. 62 people died and the flooding water buried
33 houses and 62 houses were seriously damaged.
The event is reminded by a big stone in the centre of
Desná, with a memorial tablet from 1937. The tower
stands still until today and also the remains of the
dam are visible. Also an underground tunnel, drawing
away the water to the other dam Souš was maintained. The tunnel is a known winter shelter for bats. To
the Dam Failure you can get by taking the yellow
marked route to which you get from the road leading
along Souš.

A family villa, built according to the pattern of the
North-Italy representative residences by the famous
businessman in glass-making industry Josef Riedel Jr.
in 1893 – 1894. The villa is located in the area of the
former hydrotherapeutic spa complex, founded and
operated by local physician Dr. Josef Schindler, according to the Priessnitz´s pattern. Currently, kindergarten is located in the Riedl´s villa on the ground-floor
and a Cultural Centre along with Desná Historical
Museum and local enterprises products demonstration on the first floor. We will find here also the

An integral part of the Desna panorama built by
Wilhelm Riedel, a significant businessman and son of
the company founder Josef Riedel Polubný in 1889 –
1890. The new-gothic style building from the Muchov
granite and Hořice sandstone was constructed by
Adolf Burger, an architect from Liberec. The tomb is a
cultural monument.
Water damp Josefův Důl
Construction from 1976-82. The biggest one in the
Jizera Mountain. Two rockfill dams – the front one
(length of 720 m, height of 43 m) and the side one
contain 23 mil. m3 water. It is a drinking water reservoir for Jablonec, Liberec and the Česká Lípa region,
therefore it cannot be used for recreation purposes.
The water flows through the tunnel to the water preparing plant in Bedřichov.
Josefův Důl – Pseudo-gothic church of the
Lord’s Transfiguration from 1862 – 1865

Built in 1862-1865 in the new-gothic style. The
tower is 45 m high. Newly painted and rededicated in
1996. A memorial of Gustav Leutelt (1860-1947),
poet and writer of the Jizera Mountain and also the
director of the local school is located in the park by
the church. There are three beautiful altar paintings
by Wilhelm Kandler, a painter from Chrastava from the
sixties of the 19th century in the church. The structure is dominated by the tower, measuring 45m.
Church of the Lord’s Transfiguration, Church
of St. Francis of Assissi, Tanvald
The church is located in the middle of the Šumburk
neighbourhood. The basic stone was laid in 1899, the
dedication took place August 15, 1901. The church
was named after Francis of Assissi in 1918.

In Železný Brod you may find a complex of listed folk architecture sights
and that in monuments reservation
„Trávníky“. The ethnographic exhibition of the Town Museum is located
in the biggest and most beautiful
timber house Běliště. On the Square
May 3rd , in the glass-making museum you can visit a gallery of worldwide famous artists Libenský and
a Brychtová. There are also fairs held
in June.
Relatively low altitude is suitable for
undemanding tourism and bike tourism, also going down the river Jizera
is very famous. The location of the
town is suitable also for the winter

The Town Museum in Železný Brod has two main

The giant barrel is really unique. There is no other
place where you can have a lunch so comfortably in a
real whole wooden barrel and to admire a wonderful
view of the valley where Libverda is situated as well as
the Jizera mountains ranges and the mountain range of
Smrk enclosing the valley while going there.
The Giant Barrel is a trip restaurant built in 1931,
based on the idea of Stefan Hausmann from a near village of Přebytek. He was inspired by the Giant Barrel
in Javorník imported from Vienna. However, this barrel
burnt down by an unhappy accident in 1974, therefore
the Giant Barrel remains to be the only one in the
republic. The restaurant consists of a real wooden barrel whose construction took not even one year, according to the project of Anton Lux, a builder from
Frýdlant. The building permit was issued by the District
Authority in Frýdlant August 16, 1930 and the inauguration took place already on February 1, 1931. Later on
another building was added to the barrel. The whole
building undertook a demanding reconstruction in the
seventies when the whole barrel had to be dismantled
and fitted anew from a new material. Therefore it took
whole four years.

If you are looking for a pictorial and quiet spa place
in the midst of a beautiful nature, then Libverda is the
right choice. The story goes round that the Libverda
springs were discovered by a cock of one wood ward
who lived here and provided food and bed to the foot
border patrol after their tiring guard service. The first
written reference about the town is from 1881 when
it was called Lybenwerde. The founder of the today’s

The museum is mapping the historical development
of the Frýdlant and Jindřichovice area on the geological, vegetation and civilization level. Further, it explains the current Jindřichovice Municipality Office activities as wind power plant, biomass heating plant or a

Lunaria - a village of sustainable life operates here,
holding traditional skills and crafts courses. We will
find here exhibits ranging from big machines to dishes, with a detailed description of their use.

The EIC is situated in a Norwegian log-house with
turf roof and solar panels. The property belongs to the
municipality. The log house is situated directly at the
footing of the wind power plant and can be reached

projects in the town and the micro-region. Activity at
the EIC mainly concentrates on the environmental
education of children and youths in the form of school excursions and the organization of work seminars.
Windmill
The small wind mill with turbine in Jindřichovice
pod Smrkem has occurred because the Vlk´s couple
needed to complete their farmhouse equipment, or
more precisely eco-village Jitřenka so that they might
be self-sufficient in grain processing. They managed
to purchase a weary small windmill with turbine at
the Northern Moravia. The completed windmill is
then a combination of the original wind mill, an outside structure reminding of the Dutch wind mill and a
rudder used by the wind pumps. The inner walls of the
mill are used for an exhibition of the photographs of
all preserved windmills, small mills and wind pumps in
the CR. The mill is a part of the Museum of Rural life
before the Industrial revolution. That is down in the
village, house no 82. The life at the Vlk´s farm is performed by this way. The Vlk´s couple are holding different courses and demonstrations of this way of life for

360 334. A significant monument.
The mausoleum is a prominent monument that was
built in 1901 by the descendants of the man that
founded the local textile factory. Ignatius Klinger started out as a supervisor in 1839, organizing the household spinning of cotton yarn for various businessmen. Then in 1862 he built his own weaving mill, in
which 150 looms were in operation by 1868.
His company enjoyed its biggest boom period from
the 1880s to the beginning of the 1900s. This family
business was then transformed into the LANEX Joint
Stock Company during the crisis of the 1930s. It was
nationalised during the war and became the Textilana
Nové Město pod Smrkem plant. The building itself was
donated to the town after thirty years. This exceptional building was left in desolate condition for many
long years, almost being knocked down in 1987.
However, it is a significant monument based on
Italian designs. To be more specific, the building exhibits Palladian reminiscence, as boasted by the Capra
Villa in Vicenza, built during the 1880s, and the Il
Redentore church in Venice. The building consists of
one overground and one underground level in which
the remains of the Klinger family are kept. Of particular value are the original sandstone facing and the
exterior stone decoration of the building. Indeed the
structure was declared a cultural monument by the
Czech Ministry of Culture in 1993. Extensive reconstruction work was undertaken in 1995 and completed in 2000 with the financial assistance of the
Ministry of Culture, the District Authority, and the
town.

Half-timbered houses Víska – in the village of
Víska there is a remarkable Upper-Lusatia architecture from the 18th and 19th century. They are unique,
rectangular houses with timbered or masonry groundfloor and half-timbered floor. In the outskirts of the
village there is a historical hydraulic power plant
using the strength of the Smědá water. These and
similar half-timbered structures can be found also in
the villages of Višňová, Kunratice, Heřmanice etc.

you can enjoy visiting the Jizera
Mountains outlook towers and many
other outlook places. Compared to the
higher Giant Mountains composed of
barren plains, high ranges and hills
from which we can see far, in the Jizera
Mountains, among the deep forests
and rocks the far views are almost missing. That’s why the Jizera Mountain
tourist or mountain associations started to advocate building up of outlook
towers, very prestigious thing at that
time. It can be said that all of them
were erected almost at the same time,
however some of them have ceased

Robert Hemmrich in 1912, reaching up a height of

year later, in 1905 the outlook tower was opened
with the participation of 6 000 visitors. Designed by
Jablonec architect Robert Hemmrich, the outlook
tower is represented by a 26 m high safe watching
tower of the Jizera Mountains next to which a cottage was built. For the construction of the up to 160 cm
thick walls blocks weighing up to 3 tons were used

The dominant of the Proseč range is a massive
tower, height of 18 m. The chalet burned out in summer 2003 and the therefore the building is inaccessible currently. A 28 m high, massive tower of granite

The outlook tower is situated at the most northern part
of the “ Sluneční cesta” at the Frýdlant highland. The original 14 meters high tower was built by a local enhancing association, opened for public on June 6, 1890.

The Waterfalls on Černá Desná - This beautiful
natural corner you may found in the nearby village of
Desná. The red mark will lead you to the cultural
house Sklář, turning left and then along the Černá
Desná river will head to the valley of this mountain
river. The route was recently adjusted by the municipality of Desná and the nature trail “ Waterfalls on
Černá Desná” was made accessible in September
2000. By following the red mark you can climb up to
the Souš damp.

Smrkem – the trait was opened in 1993, having
27 stops and being lead in three circuits - yellow
(2430 m), green (8600 m), red (10 130 m) .The trait
goes through historical and natural remarkable sites
both of the town and the wide surroundings. The marking is goods, explanation boards in the terrain.
Peatbog Na Čihadle – A State Nature Preserve
declared in 1987. Dwarf spruces and small lakes
occur at the water parting. Its name indicates that it
was a favourite place of bird catchers looking for
birds of passage. Recently, an elevated platform was
added to a fascinate pathway leading to a peat pool,
providing a beautiful vista of Čihadla.
Jizera peatbog – The Big Jizera Meadow –
A State Nature Preserve in the shallow valley of the
Jizera river. Dwarf pine, juniper, sprune, betula carpatica and others occur. The most precious peatbog and
nature location of the Jizera Mountains
The Jizerka settlement - the highest located village, the most beautiful corner of the Jizera Mountain,
the heart of the Jizera Mountain – just a few names
of the Jizerka settlement being situated at the Small
Jizera Meadow in the midst of Jizera Mountains. The
settlement is composed of about twenty houses, connection with civilization is provided by a small maintained mountain road. The dominant is the highest
basalt summit in the Middle Europe, the hill Bukovec
(1005 m). A State Nature Preserve and a Nature Trail
going through (as through the whole Jizerka settlement). A stream having the same name flows through
Jizerka and also so called “ Sapphire stream” where
precious stones (sapphires, rubies, chalcedonies, topazes etc.) used to occur. You can learn a lot about the
history and natural richness of the Jizera settlement
and the Jizera Mountains when visiting the museum
located in the old school. Today, the Jizerka is a
famous goal of the high mountains tourism fans. Its
part is also the well-know „Dung House“ with a collection of curiosities from trips from all of the world
which has been already closed today because of the
illness of its owner, worldwide known traveler Gustav
Ginzel. Nevertheless, its beauty can be admired at
least from the outside.
Smědava, Bílý Potok pod Smrkem – a very famous
remote place by tourists, having a chalet on the northeastern slope of the Jizera river. The first building
stood here already in 1814, the newer building was
built in 1841, a part of it was also a guard –home of
tax collectors It burned out in 1932 .Also the beautiful Clam-Gallas hunting seat from 1910 ended up
in flames in 1969. The current chalet Smědava, the
crossroad of tourist routes is also a favourite place of
refreshment and rest, built on the place of the original building in 1935. In winter, Smědava is the last
place where the roads are maintained, in the direction from Hejnice. There is a tourist bus link in the summer, a ski bus link several time a day in winter. From
the Tanvald side, along the Souš dam the road is
accessible by car only in summer.
