my name is Pilsen!
Pilsen was founded by the King Wenceslas II in 1295 at the
confluence of four rivers: Radbuza, Mže, Úhlava and Úslava.
Today’s Pilsen spans the area of almost 140 square kilometres
and it has over 167,000 inhabitants. It is home to the bishopric
and the university. Old craft and mercantile traditions are built
upon by a number of businesses, mainly Škoda and Pilsner
Urquell. In the sporting world, the fame of Pilsen is spread wide by
FC Viktoria and HC Škoda. The lovers of culture arrive in Pilsen
to attend various festivals, clubs, theatres, cinemas, galleries or
a number of open-air events. Thanks to this, Pilsen will become
the European Capital of Culture in 2015.

ich bin Pilsen!
Pilsen wurde im Jahr 1295 vom böhmischen König Václav II. am
Zusammenfluss von vier Flüssen – Radbusa, Mies, Úhlava und
Úslava – gegründet. Das heutige Pilsen nimmt eine Fläche von
nahezu 140 km2 ein und hat mehr als 167 Tausend Einwohner. Die
Stadt ist Bischofssitz und verfügt über eine Universität. Zahlreiche
der heute in Pilsen ansässigen Unternehmen – allen voran die
Škoda-Werke und die Pilsner-Urquell-Brauerei – knüpfen an alte
Handwerks- und Geschäftstraditionen an. In der Sportwelt kann
sich die Stadt mit Mannschaften wie FC Viktoria und HC Škoda
rühmen. Kulturliebhaber lockt das breite Spektrum an Festivals,
Museen, Clubs, Theatern und Galerien wie auch die Vielzahl
an Open-Air-Veranstaltungen in die Stadt. Aufgrund dieses
vielfältigen Angebots ist Pilsen 2015 Kulturhauptstadt Europas.

pro děti i dospělé dosud navštívila Paříž,
Madrid, Portimão, Antverpy, Milton Keynes a Sénart. V Plzni si první návštěvníci
kouzelná zvířata osedlají 5. září. Ohromující kolotoč bude na plzeňském náměstí stát rovné dva měsíce.

světovému loutkářství a animovanému
filmu, se toto umění vrací ve své vrcholné podobě rozvinuté tvůrci z Evropy, kteří se dílem našich mistrů nechali
inspirovat,“ říká umělecký šéf projektu

Rok Nového cirkusu
Se slavnostním zahájením roku 2015
(foto 2) začne 17. ledna i sezona Nového cirkusu. Organizátoři vybrali to nejlepší, co tento žánr po celém světě nabízí.
Divadelní představení, kde se prolíná
vrcholná akrobacie, žonglování a chůze
po laně s napětím, úžasem, humorem,
klaunstvím a poetikou přiveze do Plzně osm profesionálních souborů z řady
zemí. Všechny produkce budou jedinečné a navzájem neporovnatelné. Zároveň
se každá z nich bude odehrávat v jiném
prostředí a v jiné části města.
Provazochodec Dimitri se například nechá před očima diváků vystřelit z děla.
Členové souboru Petit Théâtre Baraque
zase budou doslova popírat gravitaci.
V únoru přijede do Plzně francouzský
soubor Cirque Aïtal. Jejich představení
nabídne skvělou akrobacii, vtip i jemnou
poetiku. Španělský PSiRC publikum
okouzlí doslova vizuální poezií založenou
na práci s objekty.

EN/ A Year with the New Circus
Art merry-go-round to spearhead the
transformation of the city
A ring with a unique artistic merry-go-round will serve as a prelude
for the year 2015 when Pilsen becomes the European Capital of
Culture. Pilsen will be only the seventh city in the world to present
this ring with mechanic puppets, designed and created by the French
artist and mechanic Françoise Delarozière.

visited Paris, Madrid, Portimão, Antwerpes,
Milton Keynes and Sénart. In Pilsen the
first visitors will have the opportunity to
saddle the magic animals on September
5. The unique merry-go-round will be
based in the Pilsen square for two months.

acrobatics, juggling and rope-walking with
amazement, humour, clownery and poetics
will be offered by eight professional troupes
from a number of countries. All performances
will be unique and incomparable. At the
same time, each of them will take place
in a different environment and a different
part of the city. The rope-walker Dimitri,
for instance, will let himself be shot from
the canon in front of the spectators. The
members of Petit Théâtre Baraque will
strive to defy gravitation. The French group
Cirque Aïtal. Their performance will offer
great acrobatics, with and lyrical poetics.
The Spanish PSiRC will spellboung the
audience by their visual poetics based on
working with objects.

Ein künstlerisches Karussell gibt einen
Vorgeschmack auf die Verwandlung der Stadt

war bislang in Paris, Madrid, Portimão,
Antwerpen, Milton Keynes und Sénart zu
Gast. In Pilsen kann man am 5. September die ersten Zaubertiere satteln. Das
verblüffende Karussell wird zwei Monate
lang auf dem Platz der Republik stehen.
„Pilsen war die Wiege von Pionieren des
weltweiten Zeichen- und Puppentrickfilms.
Nun kehrt diese Kunst in vollendeter
Gestalt hierher zurück, weiterentwickelt
von europäischen Künstlern, die sich vom
Werk unserer Meister inspirieren ließen“,
sagt der künstlerische Leiter des Projekts
„Pilsen 2015“, Petr Forman.
Ein Jahr des Neuen Zirkus
Mit der feierlichen Eröffnungsveranstaltung
für das Jahr 2015 beginnt am 17. Januar
auch eine Saison des Neuen Zirkus (Foto 2).
Vorspiel des Jahres 2015, in dem Pilsen Europäische
Kulturhauptstadt sein wird, ist eine Manege mit einem
außergewöhnlichen künstlerischen Karussell. Pilsen ist erst die
siebente Stadt, in der die Manege mit den mechanischen Puppen aus
der Werkstatt des französischen bildenden Künstlers und Technikers
François Delarozière haltmacht.
Die Organisatoren haben das Beste
ausgewählt, was dieses Genre weltweit
zu bieten hat. Die Theatervorstellungen,
in denen Spitzenakrobatik, Jonglierkunst
und Seiltanz mit Spannung, Staunen,
Humor, Clownerie und Poetik wechseln,
führen acht professionelle Ensembles aus
unterschiedlichen Ländern nach Pilsen.
Alle Produktionen sind einzigartig und
nicht miteinander vergleichbar, und jede
von ihnen wird in einer anderen Umgebung
und einem anderen Stadtteil stattfinden.
So lässt sich z. B. der Seilartist David
Dimitri vor den Augen der Zuschauer aus
einer Kanone beschießen. Die Mitglieder
des Ensembles Petit Théâtre Baraque
wiederum werden im wahrsten Sinne des
Wortes die Schwerkraft verleugnen. Im
Februar kommt das französische Ensemble
Cirque Aïtal nach Pilsen. Seine Vorstel-
lungen sind eine Mischung aus schöner
Akrobatik, Witz und feiner Poetik. Das
spanische Ensemble PSiRC verzaubert
das Publikum mit visueller Poesie, die auf
der Arbeit mit Objekten basiert.

Otevřete si svůj malý plzeňský ráj
16. až 18. ledna 2015
Tři dny v polovině ledna budou patřit
slavnostnímu zahájení projektu Plzeň – Evropské hlavní město kultury
2015. Hlavní část programu se odehraje v sobotu 17. ledna na náměstí Republiky. Ulice města ovládne rej
hudby, nečekaných obrazů, akrobacie (foto 2), adrenalinových zážitků
a mnoha dalšího. Po pěti letech příprav
se tímto dnem naplno spustí všechny
akce největšího kulturního svátku.
Scénář a režie slavnostního zahájení je
dílem Petra Formana, který na přípravách pracuje dva roky. Ke spolupráci
oslovil několik významných osobností
či těles české, plzeňské i evropské
kultury. Například švýcarského provazochodce Davida Dimitriho (foto 1),
textaře Jiřího Suchého, Plzeňskou
filharmonii, varhaníka Adama Viktoru,
Plzeňskou konzervatoř a další.
Hudbu pro slavnostní zahájení komponuje jeden z nejvýraznějších českých
současných skladatelů a dirigentů,
Marko Ivanovič. Skladba vyvrcholí ro-

zezněním nových zvonů v plzeňské
katedrále. „Velmi si vážím iniciativy lidí
kolem sbírky Ze srdce zvon a přístupu pana biskupa Radkovského, kteří
souhlasili s tím, že v katedrále zaznějí
zvony poprvé po více než sedmdesáti
letech právě při otevírání Evropského hlavního města kultury,“ vyzdvihuje Petr Forman. Na obnovení zvonů,
které byly během nacistické okupace
použity pro výrobu munice, vybírají Plzeňané již od poloviny roku 2012. Dosud se podařilo shromáždit téměř pět
milionů korun.
Zahájení bude mít tři fáze. Nejprve
se do centra města sejdou lidé pěti
průvody, které budou symbolizovat
pět plzeňských řek, pět hlavních částí
města a pět základních témat celého
projektu. Na náměstí je budou čekat
společné zážitky v podobě hudby, obrazů a emocí. Ve třetí části večera se
pak město otevře všem přítomným
a oslavy se přesunou i do historických
domů, dvorků, kulturních sálů, muzeí,
galerií, knihoven, hospůdek a hudebních klubů.

to the ceremonial launch of the project
Pilsen – the European Capital of Culture
2015. The main part of the program will
take place on Saturday, January 17, in
the Republic Square. The streets of the
city will be taken by a whirl of music,
unexpected images, acrobatics (photo 2),
adrenaline experiences and many other
things. After five years of preparation,
this will launch the major cultural event.
The ceremonial launch was scripted and
will be directed by Petr Forman who
has spent two years working on it. He
addressed a number of major players
in Pilsen, Czech and European cultural
scene, such as the Swiss rope-walker

Jiří Suchý, the Pilsen Philharmonics,
the organist Adam Viktora, the Pilsen
Conservatory and others.

Drei Tage Mitte Januar werden der feierlichen Eröffnung des Projekts „Pilsen
– Europäische Kulturhauptstadt 2015“
gehören. Der Hauptteil des Programms
findet am Samstag, dem 17. Januar, auf
dem Platz der Republik statt. Die Straßen
der Stadt werden von einem Reigen aus
Musik, verblüffenden Bildern, Akrobatik
(Foto 2), spannenden Erlebnissen und
vielem anderem mehr erfüllt sein. Nach
einer fünfjährigen Vorbereitungszeit können an diesem Tag die Veranstaltungen
dieses größten Kultur-Ereignisses so
richtig losgehen.
Drehbuch und Regie der feierlichen Eröffnung sind das Werk Petr Formans, der
seit zwei Jahren an den Vorbereitungen
arbeitet. Auf seine Initiative hin sind viele
bekannte Persönlichkeiten und Ensembles
aus der Kulturszene Pilsens, Tschechiens
und ganz Europas an der Veranstaltung
beteiligt, so z. B. der Schweizer Seilartist
David Dimitri (Foto 1), der Texter Jiří Suchý,
die Pilsner Philharmonie, der Organist Adam
Viktor oder das Pilsner Konservatorium.
Die Musik für die feierliche Eröffnung
stammt aus der Feder eines der mar-
kantesten tschechischen Gegenwartskomponisten und Dirigenten, Marko
Ivanovič. Höhepunkt seiner Komposition
ist das Ertönen der neuen Glocken in der
Pilsner Kathedrale. „Mein Respekt gilt
den Menschen, die sich an der Sammlung
„Ze srdce zvon“ („Aus dem Herzen der
Glocken“) beteiligt haben, wie auch der
Haltung von Herrn Bischof Radkovský.
Sie alle waren damit einverstanden, dass
die Glocken der Kathedrale nach mehr
als siebzig Jahren bei der Eröffnung des
Projekts Europäische Kulturhauptstadt
2015 erstmals wieder erklingen“, betont
Petr Forman. Für die Erneuerung der
Glocken, die während der nazistischen
Besatzung zur Herstellung von Munition
dienten, sammeln die Pilsner schon seit
Mitte des Jahres 2012. Bislang konnten
fast fünf Millionen Tschechische Kronen
gesammelt werden.
Die Eröffnung wird drei Phasen umfassen.
Zuerst begeben sich die Menschen in
fünf Umzügen ins Stadtzentrum. Diese
symbolisieren die fünf Pilsner Flüsse,
die fünf Hauptteile der Stadt und die fünf
Grundthemen des gesamten Projekts.
Auf dem Platz der Republik erwarten sie

dann viele gemeinsame musikalische,
visuelle wie auch emotionale Erlebnisse.
Im dritten Teil des Abends öffnet sich
die Stadt für alle Anwesenden und die
Feierlichkeiten verlagern sich auch in die
historischen Häuser, Höfe, Kultursäle,
Museen, Galerien, Bibliotheken, Kneipen
und Musikclubs.

v původní právovárečné budově z 15. století, vypráví o výrobě,

Jste nervózní nějak jinak než před
svým vlastním představením?
Samozřejmě. Takhle velkou věc s ambicí oslovit tolik lidí jsem nikdy nedělal.
Navíc jsem najednou na druhé straně.
Vždycky jsem byl ten kumštýř, který
byl někam pozván – a teď jsem to já,
kdo zve. Jsem zvědavý, jestli jsem vsadil na to, co se lidem bude líbit. Cítím
se v roli jistého garanta. Pokud diváci
znají moji a bráchovu práci a líbí se jim,
můžu pro ně být v případě věcí, které
přivážíme a které neznají, zárukou, že
nebudou zklamáni.
Možná řada z nich ještě spíš zná
jméno vašeho otce a zárukou je on.
To je pravda. Může se stát, že nás někdo nezná, ale líbí se mu tátovy filmy,
tak věří nebo doufá, že i já bych mohl
mít dobrý vkus.
Přijede vás do Plzně podpořit?
Lákám ho sem hodně. Ale přece jen je
mu přes osmdesát a už moc necestuje.

Já se ho snažím víc než na kulturu přivábit na pivo. Protože on učil v sedmdesátých letech západní svět pít plzeňské
pivo, za což si vysloužil titul Ambasador
Pilsner Urquell, a v pivovaru se mu líbí.
Přišel jste do Plzně zvenčí. Jak se
vám před očima proměnila, jaký
je v ní kulturní potenciál?
Já jsem do Plzně vůbec poprvé vlastně
přišel před pětadvaceti lety, kdy jsem
režíroval představení v Divadle Alfa.
Tehdy to bylo město temné a ponuré, kde nic nebylo. Dnes je to město
krásné, které ohromně žije. Kromě Prahy je vlastně jediné, kde jsme s naším
Divadlem bratří Formanů hráli úplně
všechny naše hry. Zájem o kulturu je tu
obrovský. Spousta lidí, kteří na ni chodí,
i kteří ji dělají. Když jsme připravovali
program pro rok 2015, měl jsem docela problém se do nabitého plzeňského
kulturního kalendáře vejít.

and the son of the film director Miloš Forman.
Is your nervousness different from
your own performances?
Naturally. I have never done such a big
thing with the ambition to address so
many people. Moreover, I find myself
on the other side. I have always been
an artist who was invited – now it is me
who sends out invitations to other artists.
I am curious whether people like what I
have designed. I feel myself as a kind of
guarantor. If the spectators know my work
and the of my brother’s, I can serve for
them as a guarantee that they will not be
disappointed by things we bring in even
if they do not know them yet.
Perhaps, for some of them, your father
whom they know is the guarantee.
This is true. Perhaps some of them do
not know us but they like dad’s films so
they believe or hope that even I could
have a good taste.
Will he arrive to support you in Pilsen?
I have been trying hard to get him over
here. But he is over eighty and does not
travel much. Rather than culture, however,
I employ beer to lure him here. In the
1970s, he taught the Western world to
drink Pilsner beer which brought him the
Ambassador Pilsner Urquell title and he
likes it very much in the brewery.
You arrived in Pilsen from the outside. How has it transformed itself
before your eyes and what cultural
potential does it have?

Künstler und Sohn des Filmregisseurs Miloš Forman.
Sind Sie irgendwie anders nervös
als vor einer eigenen Vorstellung?
Natürlich. So eine große Sache mit der
Ambition, so viele Menschen anzusprechen, habe ich noch nie gemacht. Zudem
bin ich plötzlich auf der anderen Seite:
Sonst war ich immer der Künstler, der
irgendwohin eingeladen wurde – jetzt bin
ich es, der einlädt. Ich bin gespannt, ob
ich den Nerv der Leute getroffen habe.
Ich fühle mich in der Rolle eines sicheren
Garanten. Wenn die Zuschauer meine
Arbeit und die meines Bruders kennen
und sie ihnen gefällt, dann kann ich, wenn
wir etwas bringen, was sie nicht kennen,
eine Art Garantie dafür sein, dass sie
nicht enttäuscht sein werden.
Vielleicht kennen viele von ihnen
eher noch den Namen Ihres Vaters
und die Garantie ist er?
Das stimmt. Es kann passieren, dass
uns jemand nicht kennt, ihm aber Papas
Filme gefallen, und so glaubt oder hofft
er, dass auch ich einen guten Geschmack
haben könnte.
Kommt er Sie in Pilsen unterstützen?
Ich würde ihn sehr gern hierher locken.
Aber er ist schon über achtzig und reist
nicht mehr viel. Mehr als mit der Kultur
versuche ich ihn mit einem ein Bier zu
ködern. Weil er in den siebziger Jahren der
westlichen Welt beigebracht hat, Pilsner
Bier zu trinken, wofür er sich den Titel
I came to Pilsen for the first time twentyfive years ago when I directed a show in
the Alfa Theatre. The city back then was
gloomy, there was nothing in it. Now it is
a beautiful city, vibrant with life. Besides
Prague it is the only city in the Czech
Republic where we, the Forman Brothers Theatre, performed all of our plays.
The demand for culture is huge, here.
There are many people who either work
in culture and go to see it. Preparing the
2015 schedule I had problems to fit in the
busy culture calendar of Pilsen.

und weil es ihm in der Brauerei gefällt.
Sie sind von außen nach Pilsen gekommen. Wie hat sich die Stadt in
Ihren Augen verändert, über welches
kulturelle Potenzial verfügt sie?
Ich bin vor fünfundzwanzig Jahren zum
ersten Mal überhaupt nach Pilsen gekommen, als ich Regie bei einer Inszenierung
im Theater Alfa führte. Damals war das
eine dunkle und düstere Stadt, in der
es nichts gab. Heute ist es eine schöne
und sehr lebendige Stadt. Außer Prag
ist Pilsen eigentlich die einzige Stadt, in
der wir mit unserem „Theater der Brüder
Forman“ (Divadlo bratří Formanů) wirklich alle unsere Stücke gespielt haben.
Das Interesse an Kultur ist hier wirklich
gewaltig. Es gibt viele Menschen, die sie
besuchen, und auch viele, die sie machen.
Als wir das Programm für das Jahr 2015
vorbereitet haben, hatte ich ein ziemliches
Problem, überhaupt noch in den vollen
Pilsner Kulturkalender hineinzukommen.

Plzeň má nejmodernější divadlo v České republice
V červnu 2012 byla v Plzni zahájena výstavba nové divadelní budovy podle návrhu
portugalské architektonické kanceláře Contemporânea Lda. V září 2014 usedají
do hlediště první diváci, moderním sálem zní potlesk a poprvé se zvedá opona.
Česká republika má po mnoha letech zbrusu nové divadlo.
Komplex divadelní a provozní budovy, který nahrazuje Komorní divadlo, tvoří dva téměř rovnoběžné objekty. Větší z nich
skrývá sál pro 461 diváků a studiovou scénu zhruba pro 150
diváků. Menší objekt obsahuje zázemí, kanceláře a šatny. Obě
budovy spojuje šest tunelů, a to jak v hledištní části, tak i v zázemí. Čelní fasáda je z bílého pohledového betonu, perforovaná eliptickými otvory. Proto jí lidé začali přezdívat ementál.
„Fasáda je navržena tak, že se sama stává scénografickým
objektem, jakousi plastickou reinterpretací dekorativní divadelní opony. Odděluje tak reálný život od toho magického
světa uvnitř v budově,“ objasňuje výtvarný záměr autor architektonického konceptu Vladimír Kružík ze společnosti Helika.
Interiér Nového divadla je moderní a plný překvapení. Například diváci v první řadě velkého sálu budou sedět jen metr
od herců. Akustika tu počítá především s představeními muzikálů, pamatuje i na použití mikroportů.
Plzeň je prvním městem, které po roce 1989 staví nové divadlo. Historická budova Velkého divadla slouží svému účelu
od roku 1902. Svou výstavností se tehdy snažila vyrovnat pražskému Národnímu divadlu. Nové divadlo takovou ambici nemá.
Nemá se totiž s čím srovnávat. Je naprostým unikátem.

Průvod Vendelín
Slavnostní otevření proběhlo 2. září 2014. Jeho součástí byl
i velký Průvod Vendelín. V něm se sešli všichni, kdo se v plzeňské kultuře pohybují. K hercům Divadla J. K. Tyla se přidali
ochotníci, členové různých tanečních souborů, výtvarníci, literáti nebo muzikanti. Společně pak prošli symbolickou trasou,
již urazila plzeňská kultura za posledních sto let: od Velkého
divadla k divadlu Novému.

Pilsen has the most technologically
advanced theatre in the Czech Republic
The construction of the new theatre, designed by the Portuguese
architects Contemporânea Lda, commenced in June 2012. The first
spectators arrive in September 2014, the state-of-the-art hall hears
the first applause and the curtain rises for the first time. The Czech
Republic has a brand new theatre after many years.
The complex of the theatre and operational
building replacing the Chamber Theatre
consists of two parallel buildings. The larger
one has a hall for 461 spectators and the
studio scene for about 150. The smaller
building includes the background, offices
and dressing rooms. The two buildings
are interconnected by six tunnels, both in
the stage and auditorium parts. The front
facade is made of concrete, perforated
by elliptical holes, which earned it the
nickname Emmenthaler.
“The facade has been designed in such a
way that it itself becomes a scenographic
object, a plastic reinterpretation of the
decorative theatre curtain. It divides the
real life from the magical one which takes
place inside the building,” says the author
of the architectural concept, Vladimír
Kružík of Helika.
The interior of the New Theatre is modern and full of surprises. For instance
the spectators in the first line of the big
hall will sit just a metre from the actors.
The acoustics have been designed with
musicals in mind and incorporate the use
of micro-ports.
Pilsen is the first city in the country which
has built a new theatre since 1989. The
historical building of the Big Theatre has
been in use since 1902. It was built on a
monumental scale, with the ambition to
compete against the National Theatre in
Prague. The New Theatre has no such
ambition. It has nothing to compare to.
It is absolutely unique.
The Vendelín Procession
The theatre was open by a ceremony
on September 2, 2014. It included the
large Vendelín Procession, attended by
all people engaged in culture in Pilsen.
The actors of the J. K. Tyl’s Theatre were
joined by amateur actors, members of
dance troupes, artists, litterati or musicians. Together they walked the symbolic
path taken by the Pilsen culture in the
last hundred years, from the Big Theatre
to the New Theatre.

sich der Vorhang. Nach vielen Jahren hat die Tschechische Republik
ein nagelneues Theater.
Der Komplex des Theater- und Betriebsgebäudes, der das vormalige Kammertheater ersetzt, besteht aus zwei parallel
angeordneten Objekten. Das größere

Die feierliche Eröffnung des Neuen
Theaters fand am 2. September 2014

der große Wendelins-Umzug. Zu diesem
versammelten sich nahezu alle Pilsner
Kulturschaffenden. Zu den Darstellern
des J.-K.-Tyl-Theaters gesellten sich
Amateure, Mitglieder verschiedener Tanzensembles, bildende Künstler wie auch
Literaten und Musiker. Gemeinsam legten
sie symbolisch das Stück Weg zurück,
das auch das Pilsner Kulturleben in den
letzten hundert Jahren zurückgelegt hat:
vom Großen Theater zum Neuen Theater.

Mezinárodní festival Divadlo

Počátkem září vnikne do plzeňských
ulic už podeváté věda a technika.
Po šest dnů budou všude kolem nás
experimenty, virtuální dvojníci, lasery,

lidem všeho věku rozmanité obory
jako hru, která se odehrává všude ko-

Říjen a listopad jsou v Plzni již tradičně ve znamení jazzu. Rok 2014 přinese

The International Theatre Festival (photo 1)
is the showcase of the Czech and foreign
theatre. The present edition will run from
September 9 to 19, 2014 and offers a
richer programme than in recent years.
Among other things, the spectators will
get a chance to see a unique performance
of Hamlet, directed by Jan Klata. There
will also be an Israeli performance with
Saddam Hussein and his doubles, The
Government Inspector by the Budapestbased Vígszínáz group or Elfriede Jelinek’s

The heart of the city goes live with popular
markets (photo 3). In 2014, these will be
accompanied by a huge merry-go-round,
a prologue to the 2015 European Capital
of Culture. There will be the St Wenceslas
market in September, Havel market in October and St Martin market in November,
followed by the most spectacular one, the
Christmas market in December. In between,
the popular farmers’ markets will be held.

Im Jahr 2014 wird sich hier – als Prolog
zum Projekt „Europäische Kulturhauptstadt 2015“ – auch ein riesiges Karussell
befinden. Im September erwarten uns
die Wenzelsmärkte, im Oktober der
Gallusmarkt, im November der Martinsmarkt und im Dezember der schönste
von allen, der Weihnachtsmarkt. In der
Zwischenzeit wird es zudem die populären
Farmermärkte geben.
Jazz ohne Grenzen
Oktober und November stehen in Pilsen
traditionell im Zeichen des Jazz. Für 2014
ist ein Programm zu Ehren Glenn Millers
geplant, seit dessen Verschwinden im
Dezember siebzig Jahre vergangen sind.
Größter Star des Festivalprogramms wird
die SWR Big Band (Foto 2) sein, die am
8. November 2014 in Pilsen auftritt. In
Rokycany und Klatovy wird wiederum die
Glenn Miller Tribute Big Band spielen.

The Night of Theatres
What happens in a theatre at night when

Feierlichkeiten zum Gründungsjubiläum der Republik
Die staatlich eigenständige Tschechoslowakische Republik erblickte am Ende

tschechischen Städten – jährlich gefeiert,
im Jahr 2014 am 28. Oktober. Für ein

Reihe von Touristenzielen zugänglich sein,
der Himmel wird von einem Feuerwerk
(Foto 2) erleuchtet und die Stadt hält noch
zahlreiche weitere Attraktionen bereit.

Grafik-Biennale
Die internationale Schwarz-Weiß-GrafikSchau (Foto 3, 4) ist nach acht Jahrgängen zu einem prestigeträchtigen Anlass
geworden, der Grafiker aus aller Welt
anzieht. Im Jahr 2014 kann man sich vom
8. Oktober bis 16. November in einer
Ausstellung mit den besten Arbeiten vertraut machen. Gezeigt werden zahlreiche
honorierte und hoch geschätzte Arbeiten,
darunter Grafiken, die mit Zertifikaten
für höchste Qualität, der Aufnahme in
Shortlists oder mit einem Grand Prix
ausgezeichnet wurden.

Was tut sich im Theater, wenn die

CZ/ Vánoc čas kouzelný
Nejmagičtější část roku je plná tradičních akcí
Zimní čas má v Plzni svou neopakovatelnou atmosféru. Začíná
s prvním dnem adventu a končí v únoru masopustem s nezbytnými průvody.
V roce 2014 se vánoční strom na náměstí Republiky (foto 1)
rozsvítí 30. listopadu v 18 hodin. V celostátních anketách
o nejkrásnější vánoční strom v Česku se ten plzeňský už několikrát umístil na prvním místě. Jaký asi bude tentokrát?
Vánoční trhy (foto 4), které pod ním probíhají po celý advent,
nabízejí kromě inspirace na vánoční dárky či vůně báječných
jídel a nápojů také bohatý kulturní program. Jeho vrcholem
je každoroční Vánoční zpívání koled. Stovky lidí se tu sejdou
10. prosince 2014, aby si společně zazpívaly Narodil se Kristus Pán a Nesem vám noviny – stejně jako to učiní další tisíce
lidí na mnoha dalších náměstích. Všechny dohromady pak propojí rozhlasový most Českého rozhlasu.
K vánoční atmosféře patří také krásná hudba, kdy se tóny varhan nesou pod klenbou kostelů. Plzeňský advent jich nabízí celou řadu. Skutečným klenotem mezi varhanními koncerty pak
jsou Adventní půlhodinky, které se konají každou adventní
neděli od 15 hodin v katedrále sv. Bartoloměje (foto 3). Přední
čeští varhaníci tu hrají známé i méně známé skladby světových
mistrů.
Samotný Štědrý den se pak neobejde bez populárního odpoledního setkání pod vánočním stromem na náměstí, kdy se
s věže linou koledy v podání trubačů.
A když už vánoční svátky přejdou a letopočet se přehoupne
k nové číslici na konci, nadchází čas Tříkrálového průvodu. Ten
je součástí charitativní Tříkrálové sbírky. Vychází od katedrály
a jeho cílem je kostelík U Ježíška. Na prahu roku 2015 půjde
v neděli 4. ledna.
Zimu pak symbolicky uzavírají masopustní radovánky (foto 2),
jimiž Plzeň ožije 14. února 2015.

Square (photo 1) will be lit on November 30, at 6 p.m. In the past, the Pilsen
tree placed repeatedly among the most
favourite in the whole country. What will
it be like this year?
Christmas markets (photo 4 ), held under
the tree throughout the Advent, offer,
besides inspiration for Christmas gifts or
smells of delicious dishes and drinks, a
rich cultural programme. It will culminate
with the traditional Christmas Singing of
Carols. Hundreds of people will meet here
on December 10, 2014 to sing jointly

You the News — as many others will do
in the squares across the country. All
of them will be connected by the audio
bridge of the Czech Radio.
Christmas Eve is unthinkable without
the popular afternoon meeting under the
Christmas tree in the Square when carols

When Christmas is past and the calendar
turns to the New Year, the time of the
Twelfth Night Procession arrives. The

Nach Ende der Weihnachtstage, wenn
bereits ein neues Jahr geschrieben wird,
bricht die Zeit des Dreikönigsumzugs an.
Dieser ist Teil der caritativen Dreikönigssammlung, deren Erträge wohltätigen
Zwecken zugutekommen. Er beginnt an
der Kathedrale und endet an der Kirche
U Ježíška. Im Jahr 2015 findet er am
Sonntag, dem 4. Januar, statt.
Symbolischer Abschluss des Winters
sind die Faschingsvergnügen (Foto 2)
am 14. Februar 2015.
Untrennbar zur Weihnachtsatmosphäre

Jaro žije hudbou, filmem a studentským veselím
Smetanovské dny, Finále a Majáles –
to jsou tři velké akce, jimiž žije západočeská metropole každé jaro. První je
oslavou krásné hudby a připomínkou
hudebního skladatele Bedřicha Smetany, druhá oslavuje český film a třetí
studentské mládí.
Smetanovské dny
První velkou kulturní akcí každého roku
je multižánrový kulturní festival Smetanovské dny (foto 3, 4). Ten do Plzně
přivádí špičková tělesa z oblasti vážné
hudby, atraktivní sólové interprety procházející napříč žánry a další doprovodný program v podobě mezioborového
sympozia či výstav. V roce 2015 se
uskuteční od 2. do 29. března a jeho
hlavním tématem budou Rakušané,
Němci, Češi a česká kultura. Milovníci
krásné hudby se mohou těšit například
na koncert Vivat Mozart, během nějž
zazní třeba Zednářská smuteční hudba
nebo Symfonie č. 33 B dur.

Filmový festival Finále (foto 1) představuje každoročně to nejlepší, co
za uplynulých dvanáct měsíců v české kinematografii vzniklo, a zároveň
nabízí srovnání s filmovou tvorbou jiných států. Vedle žhavé současnosti
staví i ohlédnutí za minulostí a pohledy na připravované projekty. Nejlepší
hraný celovečerní film a nejlepší dokument si nakonec z Plzně odvážejí
prestižní ocenění, Zlatého ledňáčka.

Spring alive with music, film and student
festivities
The Smetana Days, The Finale and the
May Festivities – these are three major
events that set the metropolis of West
Bohemia going every spring. The first is
the celebration of beautiful music and a
memory of the composer Bedřich Smetana, second celebrates Czech film and
the third is a celebration of student youth.
The Smetana Days
The multi-genre festival Smetana Days
(photo 3, 4) is the first major event of every
year. It brings to Pilsen top orchestras
specialising in classical music, attractive
solo maestros across the genres and
offers an accompanying program in the
form of interdisciplinary symposium and
exhibitions. The 2015 edition will run
from March 2 to 29 and its main topic
will be Austrians, Germans, Czechs and
Czech Culture. The lovers of classical
music can look forward, among other
things, to the Viva Mozart concert which
will include Maurerische Trauermusik or
Symphony no. 33 in B flat. The lovers of
musical melodies will no doubt appreciate
a concert called Broadway Came to us,
directed by Carl Topilow, and with soloists
Jennifer DeDominici and Daniel Fosha.
Both concerts will be played by the Pilsen
Philharmonics.
The Finale
The film festival The Finale (photo 1)
presents the very best of the Czech
cinema in the past twelve months and,
at the same time, offers comparison with
cinemas of other countries. Besides the
very present it provides a perspective
on the past, as well as outlook to future
projects. The best feature film and the
best document are awarded the prestigious
Golden Kingfisher award. The Finale will
take place from April 19 to 25, 2015.

Traditional student festivities have a tradition that spans roughly a century and a
half. Their form is very modern though:
music plays in open air and students enjoy
every flying second. The May Festivities
(photo 2) are held always in April and
they culminate by the election of the King
of May Festivities and by the Majales
Open Air festival.

Musik und hochkarätige Solointerpreten
Das Filmfestival Finále (Foto 1) stellt jedes
Jahr das Beste vor, was die tschechische
Kinematografie in den letzten zwölf Monaten
hervorgebracht hat, und bietet gleichzeitig
einen Vergleich mit dem Filmschaffen

anderer Länder. Neben der unmittelbaren
Gegenwart umfasst es auch einen Blick
in die Vergangenheit sowie Einblicke in
geplante Projekte. Der beste Spiel- und
Dokumentarfilm wird am Ende mit dem
begehrten Preis „Goldener Eisvogel“
ausgezeichnet. 2015 findet das Festival
vom 19. bis 25. April statt.
Majáles
Das traditionelle studentische Frühlingsfest kann auf eine lange Tradition von ca.
eineinhalb Jahrhunderten zurückblicken.
Seine Form ist jedoch eine rein gegenwärtige: Unter freiem Himmel spielt moderne
Musik und die Studenten genießen jede
flüchtige Sekunde. Die Majáles (Foto 2)
finden jährlich im April statt. Ihr Höhepunkt ist die Wahl des Majáles-Königs
und das Musikfestival Majáles Open Air.

CZ/ Kočky zatnou drápky
Výjimečná sezona bude plná výjimečných titulů
Hlavní plzeňskou divadelní nabídku tvoří repertoár čtyř souborů Divadla J. K. Tyla (foto 1, 3) a Divadla Alfa, které se orientuje na děti a mládež. K nim se přidává pestrá paleta hostujících představení pražských souborů, které hrají v Měšťanské
besedě, kulturním domě Peklo, hotelu Primavera a v dalších
sálech. S divadelními bonbonky navíc přicházejí i různé festivaly, které je uvádějí v rámci svých doprovodných programů.
Aida
Operu Aida napsal Giuseppe Verdi jako jednu ze svých posledních. Složil ji na objednávku pro operu v Káhiře a premiéra se hrála v rámci slavností u příležitosti otevření Suezského
průplavu. Soubor plzeňské opery tímto titulem otevře sezonu
2014/15. Premiéra se uskuteční 18. října 2014 ve Velkém
divadle a hrát se bude v italském originále s českými titulky.
o čtyřicet let později vytvořil Kočky. Odborníky oceňovaný
a publikem milovaný muzikál nyní přichází i do Plzně. Premiéra
se uskuteční 25. prosince 2014 v Novém divadle.
Les Slovaks
Zajímavý zážitek na prknech Nového divadla nabídne také
přední evropský taneční soubor Les Slovaks (foto 2). Do Plzně přijede 22.–23. ledna 2015, a to s choreografií Journey
Home, která spojuje živelný, fyzický a nespoutaný současný
tanec se slovenskou lidovou tradicí, humorem a živou hudbou.
Během představení tu hraje skladatel Simon Thierrée, který míchá klávesy, housle, efekty a zpěv s nahranou hudbou komorního souboru. Jako druhou uvede choreografii Fragments, v níž
slovenské tanečníky doprovodí Plzeňská filharmonie.
Spartakus
Baletní soubor připravuje pro novou sezonu velkou inscenaci
Chačaturjanova Spartaka. Tento náročný balet staví do kontrastu emocionální a lyrické scény a scény plné bojovné vášně tyranů i porobených. Režie a choreografie představení se
ujal šéf baletního souboru Jiří Pokorný. Premiéra Spartaka je
na programu 15. listopadu 2014 ve Velkém divadle.
Kočky
Když v roce 1939 napsal T. S. Eliot sbírku básní Old Possum´s
Book of Practical Cats, jistě ho ani nenapadlo, že vytvořil základ pro budoucí veleslavný muzikál. A. L. Webber z ní totiž

Cats
When T.S. Eliot wrote Old Possum’s Book
of Practical Cats in 1939, he certainly did
not know that he created the basis for a
future famous music. Forty years later,
A.L. Weber made it into Cats. The musical
praised by the critics and cherished by
the audience now comes to Pilsen. The

Aida
Aida was one of the last operas written
by Giuseppe Verdi. Composed it in Cairo,
on commission, its first night was a part
of the ceremony to celebrate the opening of the Suez Canal. The Pilsen Opera
ensemble will use this opera to open
the 2014/15 season. The first night is
scheduled at October 18, 2014 in the
Big Theatre and the opera will be staged
in Italian with Czech subtitles.
Spartacus
first night is scheduled at November 15,
2014 in the Big Theatre.
Les Slovaks
The dance group Les Slovaks (photo 2),
a leading European dance group, is to
present an interesting performance in
the New Theatre. They will perform in
Pilsen on January 22 to 23, 2015, with
the choreography Journey Home, combining the live, physical, sensual dance with
the Slovak fold tradition, humour and live
music. The dance performance is accompanied by the composer Simon Thierrée
who mixes keyboard, violin, effects and
singing with the pre-recorded chamber
orchestra music. Next, the Fragments
choreography will be performed, where
the Slovak dancers will be accompanied
by the Pilsen Philharmonic.
The ballet group has prepared, for this
season, a major performance of Spartacus
by Khachaturian. This demanding ballet is
based on the contrast of emotional and
lyrical with those full of fight passion of
the tyrants and their subjects. The ballet
and choreography are directed by the
boss of the ballet group, Jiří Pokorný. The

Cats
Das Ballettensemble bereitet für die
neue Saison eine große Inszenierung
von Chatschaturjans „Spartakus“ vor.
Dieses anspruchsvolle Ballett basiert auf
einem Kontrast von gefühlvollen lyrischen
Szenen und Szenen voll kämpferischer
Leidenschaft sowohl der Tyrannen als
auch der Sklaven. Regie und Choreografie
übernahm der Leiter des Ballettensembles,
Jiří Pokorný. Die Premiere steht am 15.
November 2014 im Großen Theater auf
dem Programm.
Als T. S. Eliot 1939 seinen Gedichtzyklus
„Old Possum´s Book of Practical Cats“
verfasste, wäre er sicher nicht auf die
Idee gekommen, dass er damit die
Grundlage für ein berühmtes Musical
A. L. Webbers schuf – dieser machte
nämlich vierzig Jahre später „Cats“ daraus. Das von Fachleuten geschätzte und
beim Publikum beliebte Musical kommt
nun auch nach Pilsen. Premiere ist am
25. Dezember 2014 im Neuen Theater
(Nové divadlo).
Die Oper „Aida“ ist eine der letzten aus der
Feder Giuseppe Verdis. Sie entstand als
Auftragswerk für das Opernhaus Kairo und
wurde im Rahmen der Feierlichkeiten zur
Eröffnung des Suez-Kanals uraufgeführt.
Das Pilsner Opernensemble eröffnet mit
diesem Stück die Theatersaison 2014/15.
Die Premiere findet am 18. Oktober 2014
im Großen Theater (Velké divadlo) statt,
gespielt wird im italienischen Original mit
tschechischen Untertiteln.

Les Slovaks
Ein interessantes Erlebnis auf den Brettern des Neuen Theaters bietet auch das
Tanzensemble Les Slovaks (Foto 2), das zu
den führenden europäischen Ensembles
zählt. Dieses wird vom 22.–23. Januar
2015 in Pilsen zu Gast sein, und zwar
mit der Choreografie „Journey Home“,
die elementaren, physischen und freien
Gegenwartstanz mit slowakischer Folklore,
Humor und lebendiger Musik verbindet.
Musikalisch begleitet wird die Vorstellung
von dem Komponisten Simon Thierrée,
der Keyboard, Geige, akustische Effekte
und Gesang mit eingespielter Musik eines
Kammerorchesters zu einer Synthese
verknüpft. Als Zweites wird die Choreografie „Fragments“ aufgeführt, bei der
die slowakischen Tänzer von der Pilsner
Philharmonie begleitet werden.

CZ/ Poklady s hvězdou Davidovou
Interiéry Adolfa Loose se otevírají veřejnosti
V Plzni kdysi žila početná a velmi významná židovská komunita. Dnes ji připomíná
jedna z největších synagog na světě, Velká synagoga, nově zrekonstruovaná
synagoga Stará, či několik exkluzivních interiérů od architekta Adolfa Loose.
Dnešní Klatovská třída a její okolí byly
v časech mezi dvěma světovými válkami nejlepší adresou v Plzni. Bydleli zde
významní obchodníci, lékaři i továrníci.
Ti všichni chtěli mít byty jedinečné,
moderní a luxusní. Jejich představy
a požadavky splňoval architekt Adolf
Loos. Z jeho třinácti plzeňských realizací se jen v pěti případech tyto interiéry dochovaly v natolik uceleném
stavu, že se mohou stát součástí plánované prohlídkové trasy. Jejím základem budou dva obnovené interiéry – salonek a jídelna, které
se zachovaly z původního bytu doktora Vogla na Klatovské tř. 12 (foto 1), a salon s jídelnou a ložnicí v bytě rodiny Krausových v Bendově ulici 10.

Velká synagoga
Velká synagoga (foto 3) byla postavena na konci 19. století v maursko-románském stylu a svou velikostí jednoznačně konkurovala křesťanskému
chrámu sv. Bartoloměje. Je největší synagogou v Česku a druhou v Evropě.
V dobách, kdy sloužila náboženským
účelům, pojala až dva tisíce věřících.
Dnes se v ní konají koncerty nabité jedinečnou atmosférou, a výstavy často
vybízející k hlubšímu zamyšlení.
1859 a ve druhé polovině dvacátého
století notně zchátrala. Nyní má za sebou důkladnou rekonstrukci, která jí
navrátila bývalou krásu. I zde se v současnosti konají koncerty. Sousední
Zahrada vzpomínek v prostoru bývalé
židovské školy připomíná plzeňské
občany, kteří se nevrátili z koncentračních táborů druhé světové války.

Zatímco Velká synagoga vévodí sadům Pětatřicátníků, synagoga Stará
(foto 2) je ukrytá ve vnitrobloku nad
hotelem Slovan. Byla postavena v roce

Today’s Klatovská Avenue and its environs
was the best address in Pilsen in between
the wars. It was where major businessmen, physicians and merchants lived. All
of these wanted to have unique, modern
and luxurious living. Their demands and
requirements were met by the architect
Adolf Loos. Of his thirteen Pilsen commissions, five interiors have survived in
such a state that they can now become
parts of a tour. It will be based on two
renovated interiors, a parlour and dining
room, which survived from the original
flat of dr. Vogel at Klatovská Avenue no.
12 (photo 1), and a parlour, dining room

and bedroom in the Kraus’ flat in Bendova
Street no. 10. Provided the restoration
works allows for it, the house of Oskar
Semler at Klatovská Avenue no. 110 and
the private, so-called Brummel’s House at
Husova Avenue no. 58, will be included

While the Great Synagogue is the dominant
of the 1935s’ Park, the Old Synagogue

Slovan hotel. It was built in 1859 and in
mid 20 th century was left derelict. It has
just come through a major reconstruction
which returned it back its original beauty.
The neighbouring Garden of Memories,
in the place of the former Jewish school,
commemorates those citizens of Pilsen
who have not returned from the concentration camps of the WWII.

Die Alte Synagoge
Die heutige Straße Klatovská třída und
deren Umgebung war in der Zeit zwischen
dem Ersten und Zweiten Weltkrieg Pilsens
beste Adresse. Hier wohnten bedeutende
Geschäftsleute, Ärzte und Fabrikanten.
Sie alle wollten einzigartige, moderne und
luxuriöse Wohnungen. Umgesetzt wurden
ihre Wünsche und Vorstellungen von
dem Architekten Adolf Loos. Von seinen
insgesamt dreizehn Pilsner Projekten sind
jedoch nur in fünf Fällen Innenausstattungen in einem so vollständigen Zustand
erhalten geblieben, dass sie Teil einer
geplanten Besichtigungstour werden
können. Deren Kernstück sollen zwei
erneuerte Interieurs bilden: ein kleiner
Salon und ein Esszimmer, die von der
ursprünglichen Wohnung des Doktor
Vogel in der Klatovská třída 12 (Foto 1)
erhalten geblieben sind, und ein Salon mit
Ess- und Schlafzimmer in der Wohnung
der Familie Kraus in der Bendova ulice

(Zahrada vzpomínek) auf dem Gelände
einer ehemaligen jüdischen Schule
erinnert an diejenigen Pilsner Bürger,
die nicht aus den Konzentrationslagern
des Zweiten Weltkriegs zurückkehrten.

Rok 2015 připomene světové výtvarníky z Plzně
Téměř na každém kroku narazíte v centru Plzně na nějakou galerii, výstavní síň
či muzeum. Najdete tu expozice a výstavy orientované na děti, milovníky historie,
obdivovatele církevního umění či vyznavače umění současného.
Zahrada Jiřího Trnky 2
Před 103 lety se v Plzni narodil otec
moderního loutkového a animovaného
filmu Jiří Trnka. V rámci roku 2015, kdy
je Plzeň Evropským hlavním městem
kultury, jej připomene rozsáhlá výstava
Trnkova Zahrada. Interaktivní expozici
bude od 24. února do 30. června
2015 hostit Západočeské muzeum.
Návštěvníky zavede do tajuplné a kouzelné Zahrady, kterou Trnka proslavil
ve své knížce. Jejím reálným předobrazem byl Mikulášský hřbitov v Plzni.
Ateliér Jiřího Trnky
Další výstavu připomínající Jiřího Trnku (foto 3) přichystala Galerie města
Plzně. Od 17. ledna do 30. dubna
2015 představí celou šíři jeho tvůrčí
osobnosti: Trnku grafika, ilustrátora, autora filmových kostýmů či soch.
Chybět nebude ani rodinná sbírka
kreseb a další veřejnosti neznámé ar-

Mnichov
Západočeská galerie se svou první výstavou roku 2015 v Masných krámech
naopak obrací z Česka ven. Připravila
atraktivní výstavu věnovanou malířství

díla Gabriela von Maxe, Paula Klee, Alfonse Muchy, Václava Brožíka a dalších

The father of puppet and cartoon film,
Jiří Trnka, was born in Pilsen 103 years
ago. In 2015, when Pilsen becomes the
European Capital of Culture, he will be
commemorated by a large exhibition
called Trnka’s Garden. The interactive
exposition will be housed from February
24 to June 30, 2015 in the Museum of
West Bohemia. The visitors will be taken
through a magical and mysterious Garden
that Trnka made famous in his book.

Die Westböhmische Galerie hingegen
wendet mit ihrer ersten, in den Masné
krámy stattfindenden Ausstellung des

Tschechiens hinaus. Sie hat eine attraktive
Ausstellung vorbereitet, die der Malerei
der Münchner Schule (Foto 1, 2) in der
zweiten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts
gewidmet ist. Gezeigt werden Werke von
Gabriel von Max, Paul Klee, Alfons Mucha,
Václav Brožík und weiteren interessanten
Künstlern. Die ebenfalls im Rahmen von
Ladislav Sutnar ist ein weiterer in Pilsen
geborener Künstler, der eine markante
Spur in der Welt hinterlassen hat: Er war
ein weltweit anerkannter Pionier des modernen Designs. Zu Beginn des Zweiten
Weltkriegs emigrierte er in die USA und
kehrte daraufhin nicht nach Tschechien
zurück. Als aktiver Antikommunist geriet
er hier fast in Vergessenheit. Sein Leben
und Werk werden während des ganzen Jahres 2015 in Ausstellungen des
Westböhmischen Museums vorgestellt.

(foto 1). Ani sedmdesáté narozeniny
mu neubraly na živelnosti a vitalitě.
Jeho koncerty jsou pověstné a bývají
popisovány jako strhující funkové orgie. I přesto, jaká legenda Maceo je,

& country, přes elektronickou a taneční hudbu, až po hudbu experimentální.

Year 2015 will kick in in big style in
Pilsen clubs. The Pilsen Club Night will
take place on the last night in January.
Over a dozen of clubs will play music
of all genres, from pop-music to jazz,
world music, folk & country, electronic
and dance music to experimental music.
There will be live performances of Czech
and foreign artists in Anděl Music Bar,
Zach’s Pub, Divadlo Pod lampou (photo
2, 3), Jazz Rock Café, Hi-fi Klub, Buena
Vista Social Club and others. The event
will be held on January 30 to 31.
Dance clubs
November will please the lovers of funky
music. The living legend of this type of
music, Maceo Parker (photo 1), will perform
in Měšťanská beseda on November 9,
2014. Already past seventy, he has lost
non of his vitality and drive. His concerts
are famously described as funky orgies.
Das Jahr 2014 ist ein Jahr der tschechischen Musik. Daher erklingen öfter als
sonst und öfter als anderswo Werke von
Größen des tschechischen Musikhimmels.
Offiziell ausklingen wird das Jahr am
2. November mit Dvořáks Requiem.
Dieses wird im monumentalen Raum der
St.-Bartholomäus-Kathedrale von der Pilsner Philharmonie und dem Tschechischen
philharmonischen Chor Brünn sowie von
den Spitzensolisten Alžběta Poláčková,
Václava Krejčí Housková, Miroslav Dvorský
und Jan Šťáva aufgeführt.
Despite his legendary status, Maceo’s
concerts are rather intimate and he is
always being himself on stage.
Geburtstag konnte seiner elementaren
Kraft und Vitalität nichts anhaben. Seine
Konzerte sind legendär und werden meist
als mitreißende Funk-Orgien beschrieben.
Doch trotz seines legendären Rufs sind
Maceos Konzerte nahezu intim und auf
der Bühne ist er stets er selbst.

Tanzlokale
Pilsen ist zudem ein wahres Tanzparadies.
Direkt im Zentrum haben die ganze Woche
hindurch zahlreiche Tanzlokale geöffnet.
Einen Besuch wert sind sicherlich der Club
PH+ in der Straße Kopeckého sady, das
benachbarte Mefisto, die Žumberská
stodola in der Bezruč-Straße oder der
Music Club Pantheon am Englischen
Ufer (Anglické nábřeží). Man kann sich
auch auf eine kleine Tour von einem Club
zum anderen begeben, denn alle liegen
dicht beieinander im Stadtzentrum.
In den Pilsner Clubs startet das Jahr 2015
in großem Stil: Für die letzte Januarnacht
ist die Pilsner Clubnacht I geplant. In mehr
als einem Dutzend Clubs wird Musik aller
Stile und Genres erklingen, von Pop, Jazz,
World Music und Folk & Country, über
elektronische und Tanzmusik bis hin zu
experimenteller Musik. Live-Auftritte von
Künstlern aus der Tschechischen Republik
wie auch aus dem Ausland gibt es z. B. in
der Anděl Music Bar, im Zach´s Pub, im

Festivaly na stříbrném plátně
Kolem jeden a půl tisíce druhů zvířat
od hmyzu po velké savce, a to na zhruba třiceti hektarech – to je plzeňská
zoologická zahrada v nejzákladnějších
datech. Na vlastní oči tu návštěvníci
mohou obdivovat žirafy, zebry, velbloudy, tygry, ale třeba i vakoveverky létavé,
varany, pandy, lemury a mnoho dalších
pozoruhodných obyvatel naší planety. Všichni žijí v atraktivních expozicích
připomínajících jejich původní prostředí.
Kromě toho ZOO láká během turistické
sezony i na výpravu do dávných časů
prostřednictvím DinoParku.
Podzim přináší také dva filmové festivaly
orientované na dětské publikum. Od 7.
do 12. listopadu 2014 se koná mezinárodní soutěžní přehlídka Juniorfest.
Od 15. do 23. listopadu 2014 se pak
uskuteční Podzimní sklizeň festivalu animované tvorby Animánie. Oba festivaly
doprovodí bohatý program a spousta
zajímavých hostů.
Vzhůru k hvězdám
Část starého areálu Škodovky prošla
náročnou rekonstrukcí a proměnila se
v úžasné Techmania Science Center
(foto 1), jehož součástí je i první 3D
Planetárium (foto 2) v České republice. Návštěvníci tu mohou hravě zaletět
do hlubin vesmíru, zkoumat přírodní zákony nebo obdivovat staré lokomotivy
vyrobené ve Škodovce. Děti pak nadchnou nové expozice Malá věda, Vodní
svět či MáToHáček.

About a thousand and a half kinds of
animals, from insects to big mammals, all
of this on thirty hectares of land – these
are the basic data of Pilsen’s zoo. You can
see here giraffes, zebras, camels, tigers
but also sugar gliders, Nile monitors,
pandas, lemurs and many other interesting
inhabitants of our planet. All of these live
in attractive expositions resembling their
natural habitats. Besides this, ZOO attracts
the visitors, during the tourist season, to
journey to prehistory through DinoPark.

should be reserved for the ZOO, a day for Techmania Science
Center with 3D Planetarium and another day for everything else. For

The breath of times long gone can be
felt in the mysterious corridors of the
Pilsen underground. The labyrinth goes
underneath the whole historical core
of the city and belongs among unique
heritage sights in the Czech Republic.
Autumn brings two film festivals focused
on children. From November 7 to 12,
2014 there is the international film festival
Juniorfest. From November 15 to 23,
2014, there will be the autumn harvest
of the Animania festival. Both events will
be accompanied by a rich program and a
number of interesting guests.
For those who do not have so much
time to visit the city with their children
or want to see as much possible during
their visit, the great Puppet Museum or
the unique Museum of Monsters are
recommended. They are located just off
the Republic Square.

Um die Welt
Um die eineinhalbtausend Tierarten, von
Insekten bis hin zu Großsäugern, und dies
auf einer Fläche von ca. dreißig Hektar –
das ist der Pilsner Zoo in Basisdaten. Mit
eigenen Augen kann man hier nicht nur
Giraffen, Zebras, Kamele und Tiger, sondern
zum Beispiel auch Kurzkopfgleitbeutler,
Warane, Pandas, Lemuren und viele weitere bemerkenswerte Bewohner unseres
Planeten bewundern. Sie alle leben in attraktiven Gehegen, die ihrem natürlichen
Lebensraum nachempfunden sind. Während
der Touristensaison lädt der ZOO mit seinem
Dinosaurierpark zudem zu einer Expedition
in längst vergangene Zeiten ein.
Festivals auf der Leinwand
Im Herbst wird es zudem auch zwei auf ein
junges Publikum ausgerichtete Filmfes-
tivals geben. Vom 7. bis 12. November
2014 findet der internationale Filmwettbewerb „Juniorfest“ statt, vom 15. bis
23. November 2014 die „Herbstlese“
(Podzimní sklizeň) des Trickfilmfestivals
„Animánie“. Beide Festivals werden von
einem abwechslungsreichen Programm
mit vielen interessanten Gästen begleitet.
Hinauf zu den Sternen
Ein Teil des alten Geländes der ŠkodaWerke hat eine anspruchsvolle Rekonstruktion durchlaufen und sich in das
eindrucksvolle Techmania Science Center
(Foto 1) verwandelt, in dem sich auch
das erste 3D-Planetarium (Foto 2) der
Tschechischen Republik befindet. Hier
kann man in spielerischer Weise in die
Tiefen des Weltalls fliegen, Naturgesetze
ergründen oder in den Škoda-Werken
hergestellte alte Lokomotiven bewundern.
Kinder werden von den neuen Ausstellungen „Kleine Wissenschaft“ („Malá
věda“), „Wasserwelt“ („Vodní svět“) oder
„MáToHáček“ („Das hat ein Häkchen“)
begeistert sein.
Und was noch?
Wer für seinen Pilsen-Besuch mit Kindern
weniger Zeit hat oder – im Gegenteil – so
viel wie möglich schaffen will, kann das
wundervolle Marionettenmuseum und
das einzigartige Gespenstermuseum
besuchen. Beide findet man nur ein paar
Schritte voneinander entfernt auf dem
Platz der Republik.
Ein Hauch längst vergangener Zeiten weht
einem in den geheimnisvollen Gängen der
Pilsner historischen Keller entgegen, die
sich wie ein Labyrinth unter dem gesamten
historischen Stadtkern befinden und zu
den Unikaten Böhmens gehören.

O vztahu k městu určitě platí totéž
O Plzni se říká, že by si zasloužila zápis do Guinessovy knihy rekordů v počtu
restaurací, hospod a hospůdek. O dobré jídlo a pití tu skutečně není nouze.
A k tomu se přidává i řada gastronomických festivalů a akcí.
Podzim přináší především Festival polévky, Pilsner Fest a Slunce ve skle.

Festival polévky
Čtyřicetilitrové kotle plné rozmanitých
polévek. Vůně stoupá nad plochu největšího plzeňského náměstí a sliny se
sbíhají. To je 7. září 2014 v srdci města, kdy se tady koná populární Festival
polévky (foto 3). Na něm se představují
plzeňské a mimoplzeňské restaurace,
které přímo na místě vaří známé i neznámé polévky.

in einem Restaurant mit einer kleinen
Brauerei das beliebte Festival „Sonne im
Glas“ („Slunce ve skle“, Foto 2) statt, auf
dem jährlich zahlreiche Kleinbrauereien
ihre Erzeugnisse vorstellen. Die Besucher
haben hier die einmalige Chance, Dutzende
von Biersorten zu probieren, für die sie
sonst durch die gesamte Tschechische
Republik reisen müssten.

Pilsner Fest

Geschichte und Herstellung des Pilsner

Katedrála sv. Bartoloměje 1 se
pyšní nejvyšší kostelní věží v Čechách –
měří 102,6 metru. Z jejího vyhlídkového
ochozu ve výši 65 metrů uvidíte celé
město jako na dlani.
Renesanční radnici 2 z roku 1558
zdobí četná sgrafita. V přízemí, v místnosti za mázhauzem, si můžete prohlédnout model historického jádra města
v měřítku 1:200. V sousedním Císařském domě sídlí Informační centrum
města Plzně.
Plzeňská madona na hlavním oltáři
katedrály patří mezi nejkrásnější české
gotické sochy. Východní stranu katedrály kryje z vnější strany kovaná barokní
mříž zdobená hlavičkami andělíčků –
mezi nimi se nachází tzv. andělíček pro
štěstí. Poznáte ho snadno, je celý oblýskaný, a když jej pohladíte a budete si
něco přát, určitě se vám to splní.

Moderní kašny ve třech rozích náměstí jsou dílem architekta Ondřeje
Císlera. Zobrazují heraldické figury
z městského znaku – anděla, velblouda a chrtici. Ve čtvrtém rohu náměstí
se nachází morový sloup z roku 1681
s barokní replikou plzeňské madony
na vrcholu.
Celé náměstí je doslova zhmotnělou
učebnicí architektury. Vedle gotické katedrály tu stojí domy renesanční, barokní,
secesní, funkcionalistické i reprezentující architekturu druhé poloviny 20. století. Na jižní straně náměstí se zachovaly
renesanční domy s kamennými portály.
V jednom z nich sídlí i Muzeum loutek
3 . Pamětní desky připomínají například pobyt vojevůdce Albrechta z Valdštejna či císaře Rudolfa II.
Z jižního rohu náměstí je vidět Velká
synagoga 4 . Jedna z největších
synagog na světě pojme více než tisíc lidí. Postavena byla v roce 1892
v maursko-románském stylu.
Ulicí B. Smetany dojdeme kolem barokního kostela sv. Anny 5 a klasicistní budovy Studijní a vědecké
knihovny Plzeňského kraje 6
(dříve kláštera dominikánek) k tzv.
Brance v empírovém stylu, postavené
na pozůstatku gotické městské brány.
Za ní už se rozprostírá nádherný městský sadový okruh založený v polovině
19. století na místě zbořených městských hradeb. Odtud můžeme po pravé straně spatřit novorenesanční budovu Velkého divadla 7 .
Nad secesním hotelem Slovan se ve
vnitrobloku domu ve Smetanových sadech 5 ukrývá Stará synagoga 8
z roku1859.
V Kopeckého sadech poutá pozornost
Měšťanská beseda 9 , nejvýznamnější společenské centrum Plzeňanů.
Historická budova skrývá nádherné
secesní sály a secesní kavárnu.
Ve spodní části Kopeckého sadů se
vyplatí odbočit Františkánskou ulicí
k františkánskému klášteru, jenž patří
mezi nejstarší stavby ve městě. Dnes
zde sídlí Muzeum církevního umění plzeňské diecéze 10 .
gotických pušek. V Šafaříkových sadech nepřehlédněme drobné sousoší
plzeňských „rodáků“ Spejbla a Hurvínka, nejznámějších českých loutek.
na světě, které sídlí v původním pivovarnickém domě. Kromě prohlídkové
trasy věnované vývoji pivovarnictví
od starověku do současnosti, je odtud
možné navštívit i plzeňské historické podzemí. Tento spletitý labyrint
chodeb, sklepů a studní byl pod městem Plzní budován od 14. století. Také
patří k nejrozsáhlejším v Čechách
a jeho specialitou je ohromné množství studní.
Procházku centrem města můžeme
stylově zakončit v Pražské ulici v nejznámější plzeňské pivnici U Salzmannů. Dům s původním renesančním bosovaným portálem nese jméno
formana Martina Salzmanna, který
v roce 1842 dovezl první várku Prazdroje do Prahy.
Proluku v sousedních Křižíkových sadech zdobí největší český velkoplošný
obraz – tzv. Theatrum Mundi 12
s námětem významných plzeňských
osobností.
Podél Proluky s pozůstatky městských
hradeb dojdeme až k Masným krámům 13 . Gotická stavba je dnes
výstavní síní Západočeské galerie. Ze
sousedního Pražského mostu je jedinečný pohled na romantickou Mlýnskou strouhu. Někdejší vodní náhon
má dnes podobu půvabného jezírka.
Naproti Masným krámům stojí středověká vodárenská věž.
Perlovou ulicí projdeme do ulice Veleslavínovy k Pivovarskému muzeu
14 . Je to jediné muzeum svého druhu
Jen deset minut chůze od centra se
nachází světoznámý pivovar Plzeňský Prazdroj 15 . Od Pivovarského muzea pokračujeme okolo hotelu
Courtyard by Marriott k Mlýnské
strouze a odtud podchodem pod
čtyřproudou komunikací do Štruncových sadů. Za podchodem zabočíme
doprava. Kolem rekonstruované budovy secesní Sokolovny a po lávce přes
řeku dojdeme do pivovaru.
Vrátíme se zpět a pokračujeme směrem k Západočeskému muzeu

the highest church tower in Bohemia – it is
102.6 metres tall. The balcony at 65 metres
gives you a great view of the whole city.

Heart of the City
The Madonna of Pilsen on the main
altar of the cathedral belongs among the
most beautiful Czech Gothic sculptures.
The eastern side of the cathedral is
protected by a Baroque grille, decorated
by the heads of the angels, including the
angel that brings happiness – you will find
him easily as his head is quite worn since
the legend has it that if you touch his head
and say a wish, your wish will be fulfilled.
Modern fountains in the three corners
of the square have been designed by the
architect Ondřej Císler. They represent
three heraldic figures from the city’s
coat-of-arms, namely an angel, a camel
and a greyhound. In the fourth corner
of the square there is a plague pillar
of 1681 with the Baroque replica of the
Pilsen madonna on top.
1.5 hours, around 2km
The Renaissance town hall 2 of 1558
is decorated by numerous sgraffiti. Check
out the 1:200 model of the historical centre
on the ground floor, just behind the great
hall. The neighbouring Emperor House
is the home to the Information Centre of
the City of Pilsen.
The whole square is something like a
textbook of architecture. The Gothic
cathedral is neighboured by Renaissance,
Baroque, Secessionist, Functionalist and
late 20th century buildings. On the south
side of the square you will find Renaissance
houses with stone portals. One of these
houses the Museum of the Puppets
3 . Plaques on the houses commemorate
the stay of Adalbert of Wallenstein and
the Emperor Rudolph II among others.
You cannot start a tour of Pilsen anywhere else than in the Republic
Square. With its 193 x 139 metres, it was one of the largest Gothic
squares in the Central Europe at the time when the city was founded.

Kopeck ý ’s Park is prominent with
Měšťanská beseda 9  , the most
important cultural venue for the citizens
of Pilsen. The historical building includes
Art Noveau hall and café.
In the lower part of Kopecký’s Park
take the Franciscan Street toward the
Franciscan Monastery, one of the oldest
buildings in the city. Today it houses the
newly opened Museum of the Church
Art of the Pilsen Bishopric 10 .
We return back and continue towards the
Museum of West Bohemia 11 boasting
a unique Municipal Armoury with a great
collection of Gothic guns. Don’t miss the
statues of Spejbl and Hurvínek, the
most famous Czech puppets and Pilsen
“natives”, in the nearby Šafařík’s Park.
The vacant site in Křižík’s Park is worth
mentioning for the largest painting in the
Czech Republic, the so-called Theatrum
mundi 12 depicting imporant people
from Pilsen’s history.
The Great Synagogue 4 can be seen
from the southern corner of the square.
With capacity of over 1,000 people, it
belongs among the largest synagogues in
the world. It was built in 1892 in MoorishRomanesque style.
Bedřich Smetana street will take us past
the Baroque Chuch of St Anna 5 and
the Classicist building of The Education
and Research Library of the Pilsener
Region 6 (formerly a Dominican Cloister) to the so-called Gate, built in the
Empire style on the place of the former
Gothic City Gate. Behind it you will find
a large municipal park, established in
the mid-19th century in the place of the
former city walls. From here, you can see
the neo-renaissance building of the Big
Theatre on the right 7 .

Perlová Street will take us to Veleslavín’s
Street to the Brewery Museum 14 . It is
the world´s only museum of its kind, based
directly in the brewery house. Besides
the tour dedicated to the development
of brewery from the ancient times to
the present, you can visit the historical
underground of Pilsen. This convoluted
labyrinth of corridors, cellars and wells
was built from the 14th century. It belongs
among the vastest in the Czech Republic
and contains numerous wells.
A tour of the city can be – quite appropriately – concluded in the Prague
Street, in the most famous Pilsen pub
U Salzmannů. A house with the original
Renaissance embossed portal bears the
name of the wagoner Martin Salzmann
who brought the first supply of Pilsner
Urquell to Prague in 1842.
Along Proluka with the remains of the
city walls we will reach Masné krámy
13 . This Gothic building serves today as
the exhibition hall to the Gallery of West
Bohemia. The neighbouring Prague
Bridge offers a unique vista on Mlýnská
strouha (Mill-race) which has been
transformed into a romantic lake. The
mediaeval water tower is situated just
opposite Masné krámy.
If you want to visit the worldwide famous
Pilsner Urquell brewery 15 , you can
continue from the Brewery Museum past
the hotel Courtyard by Marriot to Mlýnská
strouha and then take the underpass
under the four-lane road to Štrunc’s Park.
Take right after the underpass and go
along the reconstructed Art Nouveau
Sokolovna building, take the bridge over
the road and you should reach the brewery
in ten minutes.

das pulsierende Herz der Stadt

Ein Rundgang durch Pilsen kann nirgendwo anders beginnen als
auf dem Platz der Republik. Dieser war mit einer Fläche von
193 x 139 m zur Zeit seiner Erbauung einer der größten gotischen
Plätze Mitteleuropas.
Die unmittelbar auf dem Platz befindliche
St.-Bartholomäus-Kathedrale 1 kann
sich des höchsten Kirchturms in ganz
Böhmen rühmen – er ist 102,6 Meter
hoch und von seiner 65 Meter hohen
Aussichtsplattform kann man die ganze
Stadt überblicken.
Der ganze Platz ist quasi ein materialisiertes Architekturlehrbuch: Neben der
gotischen Kathedrale finden sich Renaissance-, Barock- und Jugendstilhäuser,
funktionalistische Gebäude wie auch
Bauwerke aus der zweiten Hälfte des
20. Jahrhunderts. Auf der Südseite sind
einige Renaissancehäuser mit Steinportalen erhalten geblieben. In einem davon
ist das Puppenmuseum 3 ansässig.
Vom südlichen Ende des Platzes aus ist die
Große Synagoge 4 zu sehen. Sie wurde
1892 im maurisch-romanischen Stil erbaut
und gehört mit einem Fassungsvermögen
von mehr als tausend Menschen zu den
größten Synagogen der Welt.
Die Pilsener Madonna am Hauptaltar der
Kirche zählt zu den schönsten gotischen
Skulpturen in Böhmen. Die Ostseite der
Kathedrale ist außen von einem barocken, mit Engelsköpfen geschmückten
Metallgitter bedeckt, darunter befindet
sich auch der sog. Glücksengel. Wenn
Sie ihn streicheln und sich dabei etwas
wünschen, geht es bestimmt in Erfüllung.
Die modernen Springbrunnen an drei
Ecken des Platzes sind ein Werk des
Architekten Ondřej Císler. Sie zeigen
heraldische Figuren aus dem Pilsener
Stadtwappen: einen Engel, ein Kamel und
einen Windhund. In der vierten Ecke des
Platzes steht eine Pestsäule aus dem
Jahr 1681, an deren Spitze eine barocke
Replik der Pilsener Madonna zu sehen ist.
Ebenfalls auf dem Platz befindet sich
das mit zahlreichen Sgraffiti verzierte
Renaissance-Rathaus 2 aus dem Jahr
1558. Im Erdgeschoss des Gebäudes, in
einem Raum hinter dem Maßhaus, kann
man ein Modell des historischen Stadtkerns im Maßstab 1:200 bewundern.
Gleich nebenan, im Kaiserhaus, hat das
Informationszentrum der Stadt seinen Sitz.
Durch die Bedřich-Smetana-Straße
gelangt man, vorbei an der barocken
St.-Anna-Kirche 5 und dem klassizistischen Bau der Wissenschaftlichen
Bibliothek der Region Pilsen (einem
früheren Dominikanerinnenkloster) 6 , zur
sog. Branka, einem auf den Überresten
des gotischen Stadttors errichteten
Empire-Gebäude. Dahinter beginnt das
wunderschöne städtische Parkgelände,
das Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts anstelle
der abgerissenen Stadtmauern angelegt
wurde. Von hier aus ist rechterhand das
im Neorenaissancestil erbaute Große
Theater 7 zu sehen.
Oberhalb des Jugendstilhotels Slovan
verbirgt sich im Innenhof eines Hauses
in der Straße Smetanové sady 5 die Alte
Synagoge 8 aus dem Jahr 1859.
Im Kopecký-Park zieht das wichtigste
gesellschaftliche und kulturelle Zentrum
der Pilsener, das ehemalige bürgerliche
Vereinshaus Měšťanská beseda 9 ,
die Blicke auf sich. In dem historischen
Gebäude befinden sich bezaubernde
Jugendstilsäle und ein Jugendstilcafé.
Vom unteren Teil des Kopecký-Parks
aus lohnt sich ein Abstecher in die
Františkánská ulice zum Franziskanerkloster, das zu den ältesten Bauwerken
der Stadt gehört. Heute hat dort das neu
eröffnete Museum für Kirchenkunst
der Diözese Pilsen 10 seinen Sitz.
Kehren wir nun zum Ausgangspunkt
unseres Abstechers zurück und setzen
unseren Rundgang in Richtung des Westböhmischen Museums 11 fort. Dieses
beherbergt u.a. die Städtische Rüstkammer
mit einer europaweit bedeutsamen Sammlung gotischer Flinten. Im Šafařík-Park
sticht eine kleine Skulpturengruppe ins
Auge, die zwei „gebürtige“ Pilsener zeigt:
die wohl bekanntesten tschechischen
Puppen Hurvínek und Spejbl.
Die sog. „Baulücke“ (Proluka) im benachbarten Křižík-Park ziert das größte
tschechische Fassadenbild – das sog.
Theatrum Mundi 12 , das wichtige
Pilsner Persönlichkeiten zeigt.
Vorbei an der „Baulücke“ mit Überresten
der Stadtmauer begeben wir uns zum
gotischen Gebäude der Fleischbänke
(Masné krámy) 13 , das heute als
Ausstellungssaal der Westböhmischen
Galerie dient. Von der benachbarten Prager
Brücke aus bietet sich ein einzigartiger
Blick auf den romantischen Mühlgraben
(Mlýnská strouha). Der ehemalige
Wassergraben hat heute die Form eines
schönen kleinen Sees. Gegenüber den
Fleischbänken steht der mittelalterliche
Wasserturm.
Durch die Perlová ulice gehen wir zum
Brauereimuseum 14 in der VeleslavínStraße. Dieses Museum ist als weltweit
einziges seiner Art in einem ehemals
brauberechtigten Haus untergebracht.
Neben einem Besichtigungsrundgang
zur Geschichte des Brauereiwesens
kann man von hier aus auch die Pilsener
historischen Keller besichtigen. Dieses
aus verzweigten Gängen, Kellern und
Brunnen bestehende Labyrinth wurde
ab dem 14. Jahrhundert unter der Stadt
errichtet. Es gehört zu den größten unterirdischen Kellersystemen in Böhmen
und seine Besonderheit besteht in einer
außergewöhnlich großen Zahl an Brunnen.
Unseren Bummel durch das Stadtzentrum können wir stilvoll im bekanntesten
Pilsener Bierlokal U Salzmannů in der
Pražská ulice beenden. Das mit einem
originalen Renaissance-Bossenportal
versehene Haus trägt den Namen des
Fuhrunternehmers Martin Salzmann, der
1842 die erste Ladung Pilsner Urquell
nach Prag brachte.
Wer noch die weltberühmte PilsnerUrquell-Brauerei 15 besichtigen will,
kann vom Brauereimuseum aus vorbei
am Hotel Courtyard by Marriott zum
Mühlgraben (Mlýnská strouha) und
dann durch eine Unterführung unter einer
vierspurigen Straße zum Štrunc-Park
gehen. Nach der Unterführung muss
man rechts abbiegen und gelangt, vorbei
am rekonstruierten Jugendstilgebäude
Sokolovna (Turnhalle) und über eine
kleine Brücke, nach ca. zehn Minuten
zur Brauerei.

(foto 3) u Hartmanic zase můžete celoročně obdivovat jedinečný skleněný
oltář a křížovou cestu v kostele svatého
Vintíře. Do Air Parku ve Zruči u Plzně to
zase láká muže a kluky, jimž učarovala
letecká a obrněná technika. A po celý
rok mají také otevřeno regionální muzea, která připravují zajímavé výstavy
a stálé expozice. Najdete je v Rokycanech, Blovicích, Domažlicích, Klatovech,
Tachově a Mariánské Týnici.
Šumava pro lyžaře
Šumava (foto 1) je ideálním místem pro
zimní radovánky pro celou rodinu. Ocení
ji hlavně příznivci běžek, nebo ti, kdo neholdují příliš strmým svahům. Nabízí moderní lyžařské areály, dlouhé kilometry

značených tras a skvělou infrastrukturu.
Například Ski&Bike Špičák poskytuje
skvělé možnosti lyžování, snowboardingu, novinkou je rodinná sjezdovka, snowpark a měřený slalom pro veřejnost.
V průběhu zimy tu také pamatují na další

Lázně
Jedinými lázněmi v tradičním slova
smyslu jsou v Plzeňském kraji Konstantinovy Lázně. Jejich specializací
je léčba srdce, ale nabízejí i programy
zaměřené na wellness a relaxaci, včetně krátkodobých nebo víkendových
pobytů. Včetně takových, kdy si náplň
určuje návštěvník sám.

The vibrant life slows down with the coming winter but the Pilsen
region as a whole definitely does not go to sleep. When snow covers
the land, it shines as a diamond, attracting its visitors for skiing, to
museums or to relax in baths. You can choose one thing at a time, or
everything at once.
Heritage sites never sleep
Not all heritage and tourist destinations
get their winter sleep. The Iron Curtain Museum in Rozvadov, the most famous border
crossing between Eastern and Western
Europe, stays open throughout the year.
Dobrá Voda (photo 3) near Hartmanice
offers a unique glass altar and stations
of the cross in the St Günther’s Church.
Both remain open for the whole year. Air
Park in Zru near Pilsen is an attracton
for men and boys who are fascinated by
aircraft and armoured vehicles. Regional
museums, too, remain open throughout
the year in Rokycany, Blovice, Domažlice,
Klatovy, Tachov and Mariánský Týnec.
Böhmerwald for skiers
Throughout the winter the resorts strives
to cater for tastes of all visitors, offering
various events and entertainment.
Baths
Konstantinovy Lázně is the only bath in the
strict meaning of the word in the Pilsen
region. They specialise on heart diseases
but there are also programs focusing on
wellness and relax, including short-term or
weekend stays, including those when the
visitors themselves choose their program.

Bei Weitem nicht alle Sehenswürdigkeiten
und Touristenziele halten Winterschlaf. So
kann man z. B. das ganze Jahr hindurch
das Museum des Eisernen Vorhangs
(Muzeum Železné opony) in Rozvadov
besuchen. Dieses befindet sich an einem
der bekanntesten Grenzübergänge, der
den Osten vom Westen Europas trennte.
In Dobrá Voda (Foto 3) bei Hartmanice
kann man wiederum ganzjährig einen einzigartigen gläsernen Altar und Kreuzweg
in der Kirche des Hl. Gunther bewundern.
Der Air Park in Zruč bei Pilsen ist das
Richtige für Männer und Jungen, die von
Flug- und Panzertechnik fasziniert sind.
Darüber hinaus haben das ganze Jahr
über die regionalen Museen geöffnet,
die interessante Wechsel- und Dauerausstellungen zeigen. Diese befinden
sich in Rokycany, Blovice, Domažlice,
Klatovy, Tachov und Mariánská Týnice.
Im Winter verlangsamt sich das Lebenstempo. Die Region Pilsen legt
sich jedoch definitiv nicht zur Ruhe. Von einer weißen Schneeschicht
bedeckt, funkelt sie wie ein Diamant und lädt zum Skifahren, in
Museen und zum Relaxen in Kurorten ein. Man kann sich für das
eine, das andere oder auch für alles zusammen entscheiden.

Ort für Wintervergnügen mit der ganzen

Skiareale, kilometerlange markierte Pisten
und eine gute Infrastruktur. So bietet z.
B. das Skigelände Ski&Bike Špičák
gute Möglichkeiten zum Skifahren und
Snowboarden. Neu sind eine FamilienAbfahrtsstrecke, ein Snowpark und ein
öffentlich nutzbares Speed-Slalom.
