8080 ALBATROS D.ll (LVG) During early months of 1916, the German Fokker monoplane fighters became be outclassed by new allied fighters, DH 2 and Ni 11. The German response was the introducing of the new biplane designs, which reached front line in Spring of 1916. The Albatros company introduced it's new design of the streamlined and heavy weaponed fighter with some delay, but these fighters with slightly modernized desing remained in frond line service until the end of the war. Albatros D.ll was designed together with two very similar Albatros designs, D.I and D.lll. All these aircraft have had very similar fuselage, the same engine, what was different was the wing. The wing of the D.I was similar like D.lls wing, but upper wing of the D.ll's was located lower, with new N type cabane struts. This possition allowed a good pilots view to front and up of the aircraft, and also a very good access to the two machine guns. The fuselage was not only streamlined, but thanks to the plywood cover also very rigid. Engine was 160 hp Mercedes D.lll, which gave all of the Albatros D type fighters high speed and excelent climbing ability among the other German and allied fighters of the1916. The Albatros D.lls reached front line in early Autumn of the 1916 to equipe the newly organized fighter units, called "JASTAs". With the new weapon, and the new organization, German Air Force outclased the allied air forces during Spring of 1917. Altogether 275 Albatros D.lls were built, 75 of them by LVG company. The early series of the D.lls, and all aircraft produced by LVGI, were equiped by ear type side radiators. Late aircraft had the radiator mounted in centre of the upper wing. Albatros D.ll was also produced in Austria by Oeffag company as Oeffag Series 53. These Austro-Hungarian Albatros D.lls were powered by 185 hp Austro-Daimler engine. Zacatkem roku 1916 byly nemecke stihaci jednoplosniky vykonostne pfekonavany novymi spojeneckymi stihackami DH 2 a Nieuport 11. Nemeckou odpovedi na tento stav bylo zavedeni novych stihacich dvouplosniku. Firma Albatros pfedstavila sve nove konstrukce s jistym zpozdenim oproti ostatnlm vyrobcum, zato vsak s vetsim uspechem. Albatros D.ll byl vyvijen vestejnedobejako dve dalsf konstrukce, Albatrosy D.I a D.lll. Vsechny tyto stihacky mely podobne, aerodynamicky fesene trupy, a stejne motory Mercedes D.lll. Lisily se konstrukcf nosnych ploch. Kfidlo Albatrosu D.I bylo podobne kridlu D.ll, ale horni krfdlo D.ll bylo umisteno nize, na novych vzperach typu N. Toto umisteni umozfiovalo pilotovi lepsivyhled kupredu nahoru a lepsipfistup kezbranim. Vyzbroj byla oproti jinym stfhacim typum te doby velmi silna, dva synchronizovane kulomety LMG 08/15 raze 7,92 mm. Prestoze byla robustni konstrukce Albatrosu pomerne velka a tezka, stroje dosahovaly, diky silnym motorum Mercedes, relativne vysoke rychlosti a dobre stoupavosti. Move Albatrosy D.ll byly dodany na frontu na podzim 1916. Byly jimi vyzbrojeny nove organizovane stihaci jednotky, nazyvane JASTA. S novou vyzbroji a novou, efektivnf organizaci, pak nemecke letectvo na jafe 1917 ziskalo na nekolik mesicu vyraznou pfevahu nad spojeneckymi vzdusnymi silami na zapadni fronte. Celkem bylo postaveno 275Albatrosu D.ll. 75 znich vyrobila v licenci tovarna LVG. Stroje prvnich serii, a vsechny stroje vyrobene LVG, byly vybaveny chladici na bocich trupu. Stroje pozdejsich serii byly vybaveny modernejsim a ucinejsim chladicem, umistenym v centroplanu horniho kfidla. Albatros D.ll byl rovnez vyrabeny v RakouskoUhersku jako Oeffag Serie 53. Rakouske Albatrosy byly pohaneny motorem Austro-Daimler o vykonu 185 k. Technical data: engine Mercedes D.lll 160 hp, span 8.50 m (upper wing), 8.00 m (lower wing), length 7.40 m, wing area 24.90 sq.m, empty weight 673 kg, loaded weight 898 kg, max.speed 164 km/h, climb to 4500 m in 37 minutes, weapon two LMG 08/15 machine gun cal. 7.92 mm. Technicka data: motor Mercedes D.lll 160 k, rozpeti 8.50 m (horni kfidlo), 8.00 m (spodni kri'dlo), delka 7.40 m, plocha kfidla 24.90 m , prazdna vaha 673 kg, vzletova vaha 898 kg, maxrychlost 164 km/h, vystup do 4500 m za 37 minut, vyzbroj dva kulomety LMG 08/15 raze 7.92 mm.
